Inherited from Ottoman Turkish امتعه (emtiaʿ),[1] formerly plural of meta, from Ottoman Turkish متاع (mataʿ, “any organ or article of enjoyment, possession, or commerce”), from Arabic مَتَاع (matāʕ, “property, possessions”).[2]
