mit-
- Alternative form of mito-, used before a vowel.
From mit (“with”). Compare Dutch mee-, mede-.
mit-
- a prefix of nearly unlimited productivity, expressing that something is done together with others who do the same thing, sometimes equivalent to English co- or along.
mit- + _tanzen_ (“to dance”) → _mittanzen_ (“to dance with others, to join others in dancing, to dance along”) - (with nouns) co-, fellow
mit- + _Verschwörer_ (“conspirator”) → _Mitverschwörer_ (“co-conspirator”)
mit- + _Bürger_ (“citizen”) → _Mitbürger_ (“fellow citizen”)
- Chiefly used in verbs or nouns derived from verbs; occasionally also in original nouns (compare Mitbruder).
