Inherited from Malay telaga (attested in Talang Tuo inscription, 684AD as Old Malay [script needed] (talāga)), from Old Javanese talaga (“tank, pool, pond”).[1] Cognate of Javanese ꦠ꧀ꦭꦒ (tlaga), Kapampangan talaga, Sundanese talaga (“lake”), and Ternate talaga (“lake”).
