In fact, the extension of advanced technologies to the end-user can be through WSNs that are able to provide ubiquitous communications and low-cost energy consumption control capabilities. In this regard, the current paper presents a WSN based architecture for smart grid applications. A general mathematical model is introduced, and some WSN and Smart Grid standards are discussed, and then an under Matlab M-file based simulation is presented and discussed.

Connecting Renewable Energy Sources and Systems (RESSs) to utility power grids is one of the most... more Connecting Renewable Energy Sources and Systems (RESSs) to utility power grids is one of the most ambitious endeavors of Smart Grid (SG) development in many countries. The challenge of integrating RESSs is that it is highly variable, intermittent and unreliable. Electric power grids must therefore absorb this variability with a portfolio of solutions. Today, we are already seeing strong signs of convergence in the development of the power grid in many developing and emerging countries, and the transformation of the energy system through the efforts of different stakeholders in this field: academia as well as large and small businesses, who continue to push the boundaries of knowledge in the energy sector. On the other hand, governments need to come up with policies that promote innovation while not jeopardizing the SG infrastructure. This article has been arranged to introduce the subject in the first section, the second section presents the concept of a SG, then we involve in the third section a case study for Moroccan SG roadmap and the problem statement related to legislative context, which considered as a major obstacle for SG transitions not only in Morocco, but in some other developing countries. Hence, the last subsection proposes an efficient strategy as a solution to overcome some specific issues even in technology or in regulatory, while the forth section was devoted to the conclusion.

The designed model focuses on optimizing the data sharing between the agents attached to each component of a MG system, in particular: distributed energy resource's agents and those of intelligent circuit breakers (i-CBs), in order to provide resilience to abrupt changes in microgrid topologies-since dispatch process and reconfiguration of data are not handled in a centralized manner. The long-term goal is to evaluate the impact of integrating high penetration of DERs on the through by using consensus distributed agent-based approach. On the other hand, the proposed method combines the performances integrated in the adaptive consensus algorithm (ACA) with that of the optimal power flow (OPF) to enhance the convergence towards the optimal cost. Due to communication network constraints, the agents are connected only to nearby neighbors. However, by using the enhanced distributed algorithm, DER agents may discover the required global information and hence compute new references for updating the optimal path. A MG test system is illustrated in order to validate the improvement of the presented method, and an under Matlab M-code based simulation results show the effectiveness of the enhanced algorithm.
Keywords-Microgrid (MG), distributed energy resources (DERs), optimal power flow (OPF), adaptive consensus algorithm (ACA).

Research paper thumbnail of An Improved SCADA Framework for Integrated Renewable Substations Based Micro-Grid Central Control Systems

The electrical structure is composed of three coupled substation networks, which integrate a high rate of distributed energy resources (DERs), to make it as a smart Micro-Grid system. The proposed framework contains a supervisory controller that supports new applications necessitated by introducing advanced metering infrastructures (AMIs), and IEC protocols for substation automation systems (SASs), and integrated renewable energy sources in the grid. The proposed architecture includes smart meters, relays, circuit breakers, calculators and data centers. Each device could be integrated to the Station-bus to provide a suitable topology while the communication interoperability has been given by the IEC 61 400-25 and IEC 61 850 standards. The simulation result provided is limited to the interaction between the main circuit breaker and some intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) basing on multi-agent systems. It shows the effectiveness of the implemented framework and the proposed architecture seems to work pretty well.
