Cette thèse a pour objectif d'analyser les origines de la pseudo-histoire mythique des invasions ... more Cette thèse a pour objectif d'analyser les origines de la pseudo-histoire mythique des invasions d'Irlande : les sources classiques antiques ou judéo-chrétiennes de ce cycle légendaire,les survivances indigènes, le processus d'élaboration et sa signification socio-politique. La méthodologie utilisée a été de comparer les éléments dont la source pouvait être indigène à d'autres traditions celtiques ou indo-européennes.
The object of this thesis is an analysis of the origins of the mythic pseudo-history of the invasions of Ireland: the classical or judeo-christian sources of this legendary cycle, its native remnants, the elaboration process and its socio-political significance. The methodology we used was to compare the native elements with other Celtic or Indo-European traditions.

In 1992, Bernard Sergent has shown, using the analytical framework of structuralism, that the myt... more In 1992, Bernard Sergent has shown, using the analytical framework of structuralism, that the myth of Kore, in Greece, and that of Baldr, in Scandinavia, were opposite equivalents. The figure of Demeter, during this disappearance is also interesting, but the totality of his actions in this myth is not found in that of Baldr. If we compare the story of the goddess during the search of his daughter, whether in the Eleusinian tradition or that of Arcadia, we note that the missing elements in the comparison with Baldr are found elsewhere in the scandinavian tradition. This is the giantess Skadi and various myths about her. From this comparison, other equivalences between minor figures related, firstly, to Skadi and / or Baldr, and, secondly, to Demeter and / or Kore, will prove.

Le double épisode de la rencontre sexuelle du Dagda avec la Morrigan, suivie de celle qu'il a ave... more Le double épisode de la rencontre sexuelle du Dagda avec la Morrigan, suivie de celle qu'il a avec la fille d'Indech dans le Cath Maige Tuired semblent être la version mythique irlandaise du rituel indo-européen du sacrifice du cheval, dont le plus connu est l'asvamedha indien. Cet éclairage du mythe par le rite débouche sur l'hypothèse d'une représentation d'un épisode comparable sur certaines monnaies gauloises.
The double episode of the Dagda's sexual encounter with the Morrigan, followed by the one he has with Indech's daughter in the Cath Maige Tuired, seems to be the Irish mythical version of the Indo-European ritual of the horse sacrifice, of which the best known is the Indian asvamedha. This explanation of the myth by the ritual leads to the hypothesis of a representation of a comparable episode on some Gallic coins.

It is a pathetic warrior who is often ridiculed in his attempts at feats. The only narrative showing him in a « victorious » light (as his nickname means) is the story of his death. After presenting his career and, above all, his death, we will compare him and some elements of his biography to other epic Indo-European figures : the Irish Cú Chulainn, the Latin Horatius and the Greek Ajax the Lesser.

Il a été montré que le Dagda, dieu souverain du panthéon irlandais, était, d’une part, très proch... more Il a été montré que le Dagda, dieu souverain du panthéon irlandais, était, d’une part, très proche du héros ulate Fergus mac Róich et que, d’autre part, l’une de ses principales aventures était la transposition mythique d’une version celtique du sacrifice équin et royal de l’aśvamedha indien. Un rapprochement entre ce dernier rituel et les circonstances de la mort de Fergus mac Róich a également été esquissé. Il convient donc d’approfondir ce dernier parallèle, au regard de ceux existant entre le Dagda et ce héros et entre les aventures de cette divinité et l’aśvamedha. Cet examen permettra de renforcer, non seulement, les similitudes entre le Dagda et Fergus mac Róich, mais aussi l’existence d’une forme mythico-légendaire de ce rituel sacrificiel au sein de la tradition irlandaise.

This anthroponym does not seem to be widespread and is of uncertain significance. However, it appears to be the origin of several place-names both in Ireland and also in other Celtic lands. Given the different usage of the root erc-, if we want to try to understand the cultural concept it covers, we must study it literarily - through an examination of characters with this name or surname.

However, these gods have not been satisfactorily identified in Celtic culture in general and Ireland in particular, whether it is a quick proposal by Dumézil himself. The Indo-European mytheme of the Fire in Water has a rich symbolism that is expressed through images like those of gold, ram, fish or snake. Some of these can be combined , as ram-horned snake through the ancient Celtic representations.

He will also present the legend associated with its eponymous and compare it with the traditions relating to the fortifications of the home of the Germanic gods, Asgard, and those concerning the building of the walls of Troy. The parallels drawn will demonstrate the common origin of these three legendary ensembles.

However, much work remains for researchers, not only to comment already known documents, but also to approach new discoveries, sometimes using new methods. The Celtic Mythology – 1 collection aims to bring together the best works on this subject. The disciplinary fields will be varied: archaeology, numismatics, epigraphy, classical and medieval philology, hagiography… However, all contributions must deal with mythology, studying deities or myths. The entire Celtic world, from Spain to the Germanies, and from Ireland to Central Europe, can be covered, for a period ranging from the appearance of the Celts to the end of the Middle Ages.
Languages accepted: English, French, German.
Publication directors: Guillaume Oudaer and Patrice Lajoye.
There is no limit to the length of articles.
Deadline for submission of texts: October 1, 2024.
Estimated publication date: spring 2025.
The book will be published by Lingva, a publisher based in France. It will be printed. It will be in this series:
