The general aim of the study has been to describe the dynamics of nuclear families after the migration of the mother. The selection of the population was made based on defined criteria of inclusion. For the data collection, techniques such as survey, interview and direct observation were used. A change in the family structure after migration of the mother could be noted, entering in this way into the "monoparental" typology. The maternal roles have been taken on by the father and eldest daughters while the decisions referring to the children are being taken at the moment by the father or other female figures. The communication both between spouses and between mothers and children continues, and so does between parents and children in general; however among siblings, communication undergoes a slight variation as compared with the others. The relationship among the members of the family, in the conjugal, parental orfraternal subsystem, has not, in general, undergone great changes. The children's low academic performance mentioned above could be due to the mother's departure.

Money ties people together, causes conflicts and injustices, allows independence and creates dependence. To study money within couple relationships, therefore, becomes a lens through which to observe the way people ‘do couple’.
