🌟 This weekend, we had the honor of attending the ACM International Conference on AI in Finance #ICAIF24 in Brooklyn! 🌇 The conference gathered exceptional minds from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies to discuss the impact of #AI and machine learning on the future of finance 💡 We presented two papers that highlight some of our work: 🗣️ In the first presentation, our colleague Santiago Basaldúa introduced Mercury, BBVA’s Python library. Designed to streamline collaboration and efficiency among data scientists, Mercury addresses the challenges of developing and deploying predictive models in finance. Our goal is to make machine learning workflows more agile and scalable 🚀 🪐 📄 You can find the paper here: https://lnkd.in/gwq-6ZB3🗣️ In the second presentation, our colleague Álvaro Ibraín Rodríguez discussed how we are addressing the challenge of forecasting financial transactions for retail customers. We proposed innovative preprocessing algorithms designed to identify recurring patterns in transactional data. This unsupervised approach simplifies the tasks of predicting the "next date" and "next amount." By disentangling overlapping patterns and eliminating non-recurrent noise, we enhance the accuracy of our predictions for real-world applications 🔍📊 📄 And here you can find the paper: https://bbva.info/4hWMV6HA big thank you to the ICAIF organizers and everyone we had the chance to engage with during the event. Here’s to continued collaboration and growth in AI-powered finance! 🤝 - 📣 Public service information! - 💡 #AI is everywhere – should we all understand it? It's becoming increasingly challenging to stay updated with the latest technological developments. These advancements are now being integrated into various industries where they were not previously utilized. This trend prompts the important question:

🗣️ Customer feedback is important to us. Gathering quantitative feedback allows us to determine whether customers are satisfied with our services. However, collecting and analyzing qualitative feedback lets us shed light on the “what” behind the likes! At BBVA, we have developed a system that translates customer feedback into actionable insights. This technology uses advanced #NLP and transformer models to help us identify recurring key themes and sentiments in the comments users leave in our app. ✨ This system now powers a real-world application: personalized push notifications sent directly to customers who’ve shared feedback on the app’s financial health section 🤳 Want to learn how we achieved it? Dive into our last article, check out our methodology, and see how we’re turning insights into action 🤸 🔗 https://bbva.info/3YAlKpG

I’m thrilled to share that my paper, “A generic self-learning emotional framework for machines,” was just published in Nature - Scientific Reports, presenting the findings from a three-year research project in collaboration with the University of Granada. In it, we introduce the LOVE (Latest Observed Values Encodings) framework and test it on Reinforcement Learning agents. You can access the full paper here (open access):https://lnkd.in/gVc6mFuQAs our interactions with “intelligent machines” become more and more common, the concept of “agent” will soon jump from business and academic circles into everyday language, much like the “internet” or “smartphone” once did. And as we shape a vision for how these agents should interact with our families, clients, or ourselves, the emotional dimension of human-machine interactions takes on more importance. Words like “empathy”, “care”, “patience” or “sensitivity” will more frequently show up during the design and testing of AI-powered services. We want the machine not only to understand what we want, but also to share how we feel, and act accordingly. We expect empathy. As AI pioneer Marvin Minsky once said: “The question is not whether intelligent machines can have any emotions, but whether machines can be intelligent without any emotions.” Fair enough, but current emotion-detection tools only get us halfway there by focusing on human emotions, without addressing the integration of emotions within the “cold logic” guiding an agent. As developers, we are missing a clear “handbook” from neuroscience or psychology to guide us in programming these complex emotional dynamics. The framework presented here aims to bridge this gap and bring us closer to emotionally intelligent agents that think and act more like us. I hope you find it inspiring!
