Consequently, traffic problems are increasing affecting people’s safety and comfort. Considering this literature, a various number of solutions is considered to deal with traffic problems using VANET. The most important issues in this field concern providing VANET routing protocols in a high speed environment. In this paper, the topology-based protocols were considered for the study. As known, the topology-based category is divided into three subcategories: reactive, proactive and hybrid. First, the principal characteristics are described and research challenges in VANET environment are discussed. Then, the performance of each topology-based routing protocol is evaluated and described in details. A comparative table of all protocols cited is, also, drawn up comparing protocols to each other. Finally, challenges and issues in topology-based routing protocols were discussed.

To address this problem, several algorithms have been proposed. However, there are still areas of research that require attention. Many traffic-related problems can be resolved with the help of smart cities that incorporate the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). On the other hand, due to rapid increases in the population and automobiles, traffic congestion has become a serious concern. This paper presents a heterogeneous algorithm called ant-colony optimization with pheromone termite (ACO-PT), which combines two state-of-the-art algorithms, pheromone termite (PT) and ant-colony optimization (ACO), to address efficient routing to improve energy efficiency, increase throughput, and shorten end-to-end latency. The ACO-PT algorithm seeks to provide an effective shortest path from a source to a destination for drivers in urban areas. Vehicle congestion is a severe issue in urban areas. To address this issue, a congesti...

This literature surveys different aspects of VANETs. The aim of the paper is to give an overview of the applications and systems embedded within VANETs. After a historical view of the main aspects of intelligent vehicles, various VANETs applications are to be presented mainly safety, commercial, comfort, productive and efficiency applications. The embedded systems in VANETs based on the RFID technology are to be described, as well.

The cloud-based RFID merged with the VANET provide many advantages such as data storage and processing. This paper proposes an intelligent RFID-enabled authentication scheme for filtering access applications in VANET environment. In the proposed scheme, an ECC authentication model is used to protect the authentication of HF or UHF tags, and readers. The proposed scheme can be used in many fields and applications such as campuses, parking, toll collection, etc. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed architecture, a case study was treated in a university campus. In order to allow research works, teaching and the various activities of the University's units to be carried out in a high level of security, a system filtering the access of vehicles to campus was applied.

In the transportation field, finding the shortest path in a road network is a common problem. VANET presents an innovation opportunity in the transportation field that enables services for intelligent transportation system (ITS) especially communication features. Because of VANET features [1] and despite road obstacles, a route for the shortest path can be established at a given moment. This paper proposes an enhanced algorithm, based on ACO Ant Colony Optimization and related to VANET infrastructure that aims to find the shortest path from the source to destination through the optimal path; in addition, a storage on static nodes is installed in each intersection in a VANET environment and for a specific time.
