Las Cruces girls basketball's Keira Gamboa is the Las Cruces Sun-News El Paso Children's Hospital Athlete of the Week for Feb. 23-28.

Gamboa was one of five basketball nominees from Las Cruces, Mayfield and Centennial. Fellow nominees included Centennial boys basketball's Koulie Tou, Mayfield girls basketball's Ceanna McKines, Centennial girls basketball's Bella Walter and Las Cruces girls basketball's Sofia Herrera.

Gamboa earned 65.35% of the vote.

Gamboa scored 17 points and recorded five rebounds in a win over Mayfield in the semifinals of the girls District 3-5A tournament to earn her nomination. She averaged 9.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two rebounds per game this season.
