Is Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 real? Fight countdown full of questions (original) (raw)
June 8, 2026, 11:53 a.m. ET
Questions continue to linger about the on-again, off-again fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao supposedly set for September 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Like, does anybody plan to confirm the details?
Ginnen Group Sports, an event management company in Australia working with Pacquiao, on Sunday posted a fight-style poster on its Instagram page. The post features images of Pacquiao and Mayweather, September 2026 but without a date and a photo of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
But the fight is not listed on T-Mobile Arena’s event calendar.
“There's nothing confirmed at this time, but we can let you know once we hear more,’’ T-Mobile Arena said in a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports on June 7.
Yet there is a listing on the State of Nevada Athletic Commission calendar for a PRO Boxing Event Sept. 25.
The notes state Manny Pacquiao Promotions will promote a professional boxing event with the event scheduled from noon to 10 p.m. and set to be held at T-Mobile Arena.
Could this be the rematch between Pacquiao, 47, and Mayweather, 49, more than a decade after Mayweather won their first fight by unanimous decision?
Also, that Ginnen Group Sports post on Instagram provides an email for sponsorship inquiries. Are the necessary funds in place to promote the fight?
Again, questions linger.
Waiting on Manny Pacquiao
About a week ago, Pacquiao arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport. Among those waiting for him was Elie Seckbach, who produces ESNews Boxing and is known for his impromptu interviews.
“Is the Mayweather fight still happening in September?’’ Seckbach asked.
Pacquiao did not respond.
“You know Mayweather’s fighting in June in Greece,’’ Seckbach said. “Are you rooting for him to win?”
Mayweather is scheduled to fight Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis in an exhibition bout June 26 in Athens, Greece.
“Tuneup,’’ Pacquiao told Seckbach. “Tuneup.’’
In the Seckbach video posted online, Pacquiao offered no more details about his potential fight against Mayweather. But there are more questions to answer.
On the Manny Pacquiao Promotions website, the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight still is listed as scheduled for The Sphere.
There's also a news release announcing an exhibition between Pacquiao and one of his former sparring partners, Ruslan Provodnikov, April 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. There's no explanation about why the fight did not materialize or whether it could be rescheduled.
What about Netflix
In February, it was Netflix that issued a press release announcing the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather to be held Sept. 19 at The Sphere in Las Vegas. The streaming company was set to carry the fight.
Things looked tenuous when Mayweather later said the fight would be an exhibition and Pacquiao’s camp said the fight was contracted to be a sanctioned pro bout.
The matter potentially looked headed to court. But in May, Mike Coppinger of The Ring reported the boxers had agreed to a revised deal and the fight was back on, with the date moving to Sept. 25 and to T-Mobile Arena.
But on Netflix’s website, the fight still is listed as scheduled for Sept. 19 at The Sphere.
On Monday, a representative at The Sphere referred questions to Netflix public relations.
Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
