SS 15 - Advancing an Actionable Research Agenda for Ecological Science: An ESA Community Discussion (original) (raw)

Description:
For more than a century, ecological science has been making breakthroughs in our understanding of how life interacts with and shapes the environment. As this knowledge has grown over time, ESA has supported the creation and dissemination of cutting-edge science and served as a trusted source of scientific information. We are now entering a new phase in societal needs for robust ecological science to address the poly-crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental justice. Decisions made in the next decade will be critical determinants of the 21st-century trajectory of global warming, species extinctions, and the availability and integrity of natural resources. To inform these decisions, society needs actionable, credible, and inclusive ecological research informed by the needs and perspectives of scientists, practitioners, community and Tribal leaders, and decision-makers. The ESA Task Force to Establish a Research Agenda in Actionable Ecological Science invites you to inform a decadal research agenda focused on the next generation of cutting-edge ecological research priorities that are actionable for problem-solving. Panelists will discuss and take input from the ESA community on cutting-edge research questions, priorities, and best practices for action-oriented, engaged, and use-inspired ecological science to frame collaborative research in the next decade.
