• After being subjected to an absentee father in the form of Kyle Chandler in The Spectacular Now, there’s a new dad in Miles Teller‘s life. Paul Reiser has signed on to writer-director Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash, the feature version of his Sundance-winning short, which is expected to begin shooting in the next few weeks. The Aliens actor recently appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra and is currently filming the comedy Life After Beth, starring Aubrey Plaza, Anna Kendrick, and Dane DeHaan. [THR]

• Chuck Bass might get to play a vampire! Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick is reportedly in negotiations to join Denis Leary in Kitchen Sink, about teens who team up with zombies and vampires to defeat the aliens. Vanessa Hudgens is still in negotiations. [The Wrap]

The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco is in talks to play Josh Gad’s (1600 Penn) fiancé in an untitled comedy for first-time feature director Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up screenwriter). Comedian Kevin Hart (Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain) is already on board to star as Gad’s best man. [The Wrap]

Director Doug Liman is going back to shoot some additional scenes for Edge of Tomorrow and has added Jeremy Piven (Entourage) to the cast as Col. Walter Marx. The Warner Bros. movie, previously titled All You Need is Kill, stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt and is still set for a March 7, 2014 release. [Deadline]

• She played Brad Pitt’s daughter in World War Z and Ron Livingston’s in The Conjuring, and now Sterling Jerins is set to take on a similarly intense role in the feature adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places. Jerins will play a younger Charlize Theron. [Variety]

Misfits actor Osy Ikhile and The Hour’s Ben Whishaw are both set for Ron Howard’s big screen take on Nathaniel Philbrick’s In the Heart of the Sea, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, and Brendan Gleeson. Filming on the historical epic is expected to begin this fall in London. [The Wrap]

• Ray Liotta (Killing Them Softly) is set to star alongside Jeremy Renner in Kill the Messenger as a retired CIA agent who aids journalist Gary Webb (Renner) in uncovering details surrounding the CIA’s involvement in cocaine trafficking. [Deadline]

• What if God was just another variety show performer? It’s not a forgotten lyric from that Joan Osborne song, it’s the premise of It’s Gawd, an indie that has just added Luke Perry (90210) and Rebecca Mader (Lost) to its cast. Tommy Chong (of Cheech & Chong) is starring as Gawd. [THR]
