Joy marks the third movie actress Jennifer Lawrence and director David O. Russell have worked on together—so they probably get along to a degree. Nevertheless, a rumor popped up that Russell went on a tirade against Lawrence and producer Harvey Weinstein.
But Lawrence took to Facebook to deny the incident, calling it “tabloid malarkey,” adding she “adores” Russell, who’s “one of [her] closest friends.”
A Fox 2000 representative told TMZ that Russell’s on-set screaming was “method acting” to prepare Lawrence for a scene, getting her sufficiently pumped up. Russell has a reputation for getting into it on set, epitomized by the notorious I Heart Huckabees run-in with Lily Tomlin.
_Joy_—which follows Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano and will be a Silver Linings Playbook reunion of sorts for JLaw, Russell, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro—is due in theaters Christmas 2015.
