Michael B. Jordan has played a Marvel supervillain, a light heavyweight champion boxer, and an altruistic lawyer (among many, many other characters in his career), but now he's adding a title he's never had before to his resume: PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive.

"It's a cool feeling," the actor tells PEOPLE of being named the 2020 Sexiest Man Alive. "You know, everybody always made that joke, like, 'Mike, this is the one thing you're probably not going to get.' But it's a good club to be a part of."

Jordan most recently starred in 2019's Just Mercy as the real-life lawyer Bryan Stevenson. He also executive produced and appeared in Netflix's Raising Dion and lent his voice to animated series Gen: Lock. The 33-year-old's robust list of credits also includes Creed and Creed II, Fahrenheit 451, Black Panther, and Fruitvale Station, as well as TV series like Parenthood, Friday Night Lights, and The Wire. Next, he's starring in the Tom Clancy spy thriller Without Remorse, which he also produced, and will be producing a Static Shock movie based on the DC and Milestone Comics character Static, who became more widely known through the early-2000s animated series Static Shock.

The star has also worked passionately to help make Hollywood more diverse. His company, Outlier Society Productions, was the first to adopt an inclusion rider, which mandates that filmmakers enlist a diverse cast and crew. He brought that message to the streets this summer when he joined the Black Lives Matter protests and urged Hollywood executives to 'commit to black hiring' in an emotional speech.

Earlier this year, Jordan was also named as one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world, sharing the honor with the likes of Selena Gomez, Megan Thee Stallion, Jennifer Hudson, and more.

Of his newest honor as Sexiest Man Alive, the actor tells PEOPLE that the women in his family "are definitely proud of this one."

Jordan is now among the ranks of previous Sexiest Men Alive, including last year's honoree John Legend. Previous title holders include Idris Elba, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, David Beckham, Chris Hemsworth, Adam Levine, and Channing Tatum.
