Remember that time Tony Stark saved a kid during the finale fight of Iron Man 2? That lil' tyke stepped back into the spotlight recently when Tom Holland stated the boy was actually a young Peter Parker. Now, the actor's Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts has also confirmed the popular fan theory with a little more detail on how that came to be.

In a conversation with UPROXX, Watts described the experience of rewatching these Marvel movies from the perspective of a fan who now has his own chapter of the Avengers cinematic universe.

"I was watching all these other movies and being like, 'What if that little kid at the Stark Expo was Peter Parker? In the Iron Man mask,'" he said. "Like, he'd be about the right age for that. And he loves Tony Stark. 'Oh, what about after the Avengers battle, who would clean that stuff up?' Because they mention damage control at one point in the movie. So it's this thing where, because it's not completely figured out, that you can just go back and basically write fan fiction for those movies, then the fan fiction becomes reality."

Spoiler warning: The damage control reference (which is also the name of a Marvel comic) became a part of Michael Keaton's Vulture, who was a member of the clean-up crew for the battle in New York before turning to a life of crime.

"A lot of the Easter eggs in [_Homecoming_] just started by rewatching the movies," Watts added.

See Peter's real debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Iron Man 2 clip below.

"I remember watching that with [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige and everyone and being like, 'Does the math work on that?'" Watts recalled. "He was like, 'It might, maybe.' Then I found out that was Jon Favreau's kid." Yep, that was little Max Favreau.

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in theaters July 7.
