'Drag Race' star Morphine Love Dion injured in deadly car accident: 'Grateful to be alive' (original) (raw)
RuPaul's Drag Race season 16 star Morphine Love Dion was injured early Sunday morning in a Los Angeles car crash that left one person dead.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the Miami-based drag entertainer — who placed fifth on the most recent season of the MTV reality competition series — was involved in a deadly car crash on the 10 freeway in L.A.'s Jefferson Park area. Five others were also injured in the accident.
"Morphine was in a serious car accident while in an Uber," read a statement on Morphine's official Instagram Story, which was updated Monday afternoon. "She suffered multiple injuries but is grateful to be alive. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Some space and time is appreciated as she focuses on healing."

In an accident report obtained by EW via the California Highway Patrol, the CHP responded to a one-vehicle crash at 3:19 a.m. local time, with a grey sedan crashing into the center divider wall of the freeway.
A minivan carrying other passengers then collided with the disabled vehicle. Someone only identified as a woman in her twenties became trapped inside the sedan, and later died from her injuries, the CHP's report indicates. The agency did not release names or exact ages of those involved, and listed them only as four Jane Does and two John Does.
Canada's Drag Race season 3 star Kaos was also in the Uber with Morphine when it crashed, and is recovering, EW has confirmed.
Kaos posted an Instagram Story on Monday telling fans they are on bed rest, but did not disclose details about being involved in the accident, writing: "Just so everyone knows I am ok just been on bed rest. I will be making a post explaining what happened this weekend once I am in the right headspace and also can explain it all and the accident. For now resting and sorry won’t be posting any dragcon stuff right now either that will come later prob next week!"

Both Morphine and Kaos were in the area to attend RuPaul's DragCon LA, an annual convention where drag entertainers from around the world congregate for a two-day meet-up.
EW has reached out to representatives for Morphine, Kaos, the LAPD, the CHP, and the L.A. County District Attorney's office for more information.
Morphine's season 16 sisters celebrated their fellow queen's safety online, with Miss Congeniality winner Xunami Muse sharing a message of encouragement to social media.
"Her and everyone else involved are doing fine. These were the scariest 2 days ever but so happy they’re all with us and recovering," Xunami wrote on X, while Geneva Karr shared Morphine's post on her own Instagram Story and added: "Surgeries went well and now To a speedy recovery, love you hermana."

After rising to international prominence on Drag Race season 16 in January, Morphine eventually won the show's lip-sync LaLaPaRuza episode in April, alongside bagging the title of Queen of She Done Already Done Had Herses and a $50,000 cash prize.
An Uber spokesperson provided the following statement to EW via email: "Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this gut-wrenching crash. We are working to get in touch with the driver and riders to check on their well-being."
