Taylor Swift trolls Ryan Reynolds while praising 'Deadpool & Wolverine' (original) (raw)

Taylor Swift is making Ryan Reynolds the butt of her joke.

On Thursday, the pop star trolled her longtime friend with an ostensibly sweet social media post, praising his highly anticipated film, Deadpool & Wolverine.

“Over the past few years I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film,” Swift wrote on her Instagram Stories. “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”

While one might assume Swift was referring to Reynolds — the star, co-writer, and executive producer on the film — her post came with a plot twist. She ended her praise by adding, “But that’s just Hugh for you!”

The note was accompanied by a photo of Swift and Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, posing side-by-side, while accompanied by Reynolds, his wife Blake Lively, and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.

“These other randoms crashed the photo and we were too polite to ask them to leave,” Swift noted, before encouraging fans to buy tickets for the "unspeakably awesome” film.

Jokes aside, Reynolds still got a mention at the end of her post. Sort of.

“Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!,” Swift quipped.

Taking her jokes in stride, Reynolds reposted Swift's post to his own Instagram Stories, writing, "Omg, this may have just killed @thehughjackman," and added in a second post, "I am also 💀." Meanwhile, Jackman wrote simply, "I ❤️ TS."

The friendship between Swift, Lively and Reynolds dates back years, with the trio often photographed together in public. Levy, having befriended the singer as well, recently cameoed in her All Too Well short film. The group, joined by Jackman, were also spotted attending a Kansas City Chiefs game in October, to support Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, a tight end for the NFL team.

Naturally, seeing Swift with the Deadpool creatives led fans to speculate whether the “Karma” singer would have a role to play in the upcoming film. While Levy and Reynolds initially played coy about Swift’s potential involvement, a source confirmed to EW exclusively in June that Swift is not in the film — though there will be plenty more surprises for moviegoers upon the film's release.

Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters this Friday, July 26.
