Here's Your Guide to All the JonBenét Ramsey TV Projects (original) (raw)

There’s a trend in television right now for deep dives into crimes gone by, both as documentary series (like Making a Murderer and O.J.: Made in America) and as dramatic retellings (American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson). With so many new shows in the works, the unresolved case of JonBenét Ramsey’s murder nearly 20 years ago is leading the next wave.

JonBenét Ramsey’s dead body was found in her parents’ basement on Dec. 26, 1996. The six-year-old child beauty queen had been strangled and struck on the head. After discovering a ransom note on the stairs to the kitchen of her family’s home in Boulder, Colo., her mother, Patsy Ramsey, realized her daughter was missing and — despite instruction in the letter warning her not to — contacted the police. Patsy, JonBenét’s father John, and her older brother Burke, 9, were later suspected of committing the murder. No charges have ever been filed. In fact, despite several grand jury hearings, more than 140 people having been investigated as suspects, the existence of 1,400 pieces of evidence, and more than 50,000 pages of investigative documents, the case remains open.

The story has captivated the nation ever since that day in 1996, and it’s especially at the forefront as the 20th anniversary recently passed. Here’s a guide to the JonBenét projects landing in your living rooms.
