Brett Herron announced as joint GOOD and Rise Mzansi mayoral candidate for Cape Town (original) (raw)

GOOD Party Secretary-General Brett Herron has been officially announced as the party’s mayoral candidate for Cape Town ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The announcement took place before a crowd at the Wesbank Community Hall.

In a significant political collaboration, Herron will be representing both the GOOD Party and Rise Mzansi on the ballot box in the municipal polls.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Herron declared that his primary mission will be to systematically dismantle the deep-seated socioeconomic inequalities that continue to divide the Mother City as a direct legacy of apartheid.

"We are free, legally speaking, from apartheid," Herron said. "But we are not free from the living conditions of apartheid. So the challenge I accept from Songezo [Zibi, Rise Mzansi leader] is to bring Cape Town back to that fighting spirit for a free South Africa where everybody will succeed."
