'Allo! I am THRILLED to find this community! I mean... THRILLED! TO PIECES!
See, recently (as in, yesterday) I fell madly in love with 'The King and I' all over again. It's been AGES since I've watched it and I hadn't seen it since I was a little girl and with older eyes I can now truly appreciate the romance of it and, as a result, I am madly in love with it and have instantly resolved to find and devour the book. But enough, on to this survey!

A little about yourself: I grew up on these old Broadway tyrants, Rogers & Hammerstein. I learned solfege from them and they began my love of musicals. Now, much later, I curse the years I spent deploring older musicals and with new knowledge of Oscar Hammerstein (the result of a project on Steven Sondheim, with whom he was closely linked) I have a new appreciation for all they did and a greater love for it. This musical in particular has struck me in its beautiful story which reminds me so much of some of the classic romances, like Pride & Prejudice. And though I have seen, and thoroughly enjoyed, Anna and the King, which is no doubt more true to life, Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr will always be King Mongkut and Anna Leonowens to me. (Although, I will gladly substitute Tom Felton for Louie ;P)
Favorite King and I Character:
King Mongkut - Yul Brynner, DEFINITELY, no comparison. I do love Anna, but... the King was just too fantastic.
Favorite King and I Moment:
Too many. Probably praying to Buddha where the King and Anna have that little *ahem* moment with the 'no one's head shall be higher than mine' rule. HA! However, the introduction of the children at the beginning is possibly THE CUTEST THING I have ever seen. Especially the poor little princess who forgets that you can never show your back to the King! TOO ADORABLE!
Favorite King and I Song:
"Something Wonderful" - Lady Thiang, though it was an obvious voice-over. It is not the musical’s most famous or a general favorite, but it was the most moving for me and I wept heartily yesterday, as it played solemnly at the King's death.
When did you first discover The King and I?:
Oh, goodness, I must have been about 7 when I first watched it. I don't know, it was a long time ago when, though I flatter myself, I was a precocious child, I was still too young to really understand it and find it entertaining. Though I must have watched it multiple times because I remembered it fairly clearly. I rediscovered it, though, yesterday when I had the good fotune to catch it on TMC.
Favorite Movies:
A list that goes on FAR too long... in no particular order: Labyrinth (1986), The Fountain, LOTR, POTC, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along-Blog, A Fish Called Wanda, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Love Actually, The Philadelphia Story, Atonement
Favorite Musicians:
Josh Groban, Owl City, Jack's Mannequin, It's a Beautiful Day, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, My Chemical Romance, and several others. Obviously my musical tastes are wide and diverse. For musical stars, I like: Michael Ball, Philip Quast, Lea Salonga, Michael Crawford, Hugh Jackman
Favorite Books:
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell, Phantom by Susan Kay, As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, Antony & Cleopatra by William Shakespeare, Dracula by Bram Stoker, Harry Potter, the Young Wizards Series by Diane Duane, Jane Austen (all), Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman

Favorite TV Shows:
Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Big Bang Theory, how i met your mother, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel Favorite Misc. Celebrities:

Favorite Foods:
tea: all kinds, Monte Cristo sandwich, I could live on these for the rest of my life and die young and happy from bad cholesterol
Tell us something totally random about yourself:
I am Queen of the Guttersnipes. I am totally convinced that today’s kids (yes, I realize I sound like a total hypocrite being 17 and referring to my generation as ‘today’s kids’ but ask anyone who knows me, I am VERY old) have no taste or class. I will not say that I wish to live in the past, but I believe that things have changed and not to my liking.
Any last words?:
I am undertaking the venture of writing King and I fanfiction. *le gasp* Yeah, I know this is a physical impossibility, and yet, I can't help it. The urge to write is too strong. Any advice? Requests? Prerequisites of any kind? I'm afraid writing is my forte, so icons are a tad beyond my power, although I would LOVE it if someone could make/find some. Or give me some bases, aka King and I screencaps, to play around with, because I can edit pics very well. And I'm dying to make a few, I just lack proper materials.
