Literature has demonstrated that children’s early exposure to academic language at home can have a huge impact on the development of their lexical richness. This study explores the extent to which lexical richness, including lexical density and diversity are present in the production of two mothers and their children from different social and educational backgrounds during an informal storytelling interaction. The study addresses two research questions related to (i) the degree of lexical richness of the mothers’ input and their children’s output and (ii) how a mother’s social and educational background can influence the child’s lexical richness. Data analysis revealed that the use of lexical features varied considerably among the two mothers and their children. Compared to the low social and educational background mother, the affluent and well-educated mother pr...

Many thought that the way it was structured would have a negative impact on the quality of teaching and would not allow the students to achieve a high proficiency in the language. The main objective of the study is to find out the extent to which the introduction of the LMD system has affected the professors’ teaching practices, research, and career. It also seeks to determine its impact on the students’ learning, performance, and language proficiency.

Some learners welcomed these imposed policies and expressed their contentment with online learning, while others opposed it. This study aims to present the experience of a group of 54 students at Mohammed V University with a course adopting a blended approach. The objectives of the study are to investigate the students' attitudes towards the imposed policies of learning in a virtual classroom and find out about their level of anxiety and stress in these contexts. The study tried to answer questions related to 1) Moroccan Public Speaking students' views about their public speaking development in a virtual setting; 2) the students' perceptions of stress and anxiety, as a reaction to the unprecedented shift to online education, while presenting a public speaki...

B... more Moroccan students at all levels are required to sit for standardized exams every academic year. Being summative rather than formative, these exams serve certain educational purposes: evaluate students’ linguistic and/ or cognitive competencies. Students in preparatory classes (henceforth CPGE) are no exception; they are required to sit for a national exam every year before they can join any school of engineering or business. Because developing students’ critical thinking abilities is a prerequisite in the CPGE guidelines, the written national exams are supposedly designed to assess students’ critical thinking skills. The present study aims to evaluate CPGE national exams; that is, to examine the extent to which these exams assess students’ critical thinking according to Bloom’s taxonomy. Accordingly, this paper adopts a mixed-method approach to analyze and evaluate all CPGE exams since 2012. The study revealed that teachers have controversial views about the objective of national exams; it also showed that all the exams’ questions do not equally assess students’ different levels of critical thinking skills. This pushed teachers to suggest some measures to improve CPGE national exams.

Its aim is to review three main models commonly used in this area of research, namely the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) by Bennet (1986-1993), the Intercultural Communicative Competence model (ICC) by Byram (1997), and lastly a new born of the field, the model of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) by Earley and Ang (2003). The paper also looks at the different tools used to evaluate IC using different instruments and evaluation methods proposed by these models. The similarities between the models are highlighted and the different ways they could be further explored in the field of education are discussed and explored. So the objective of the present study is to explore the cultural content of the Amazigh textbooks using content analysis as the main method to process the data drawn from the first, third, and fifth level textbooks. The analysis reveals an over-representation of mainly two aspects of the Amazigh culture, namely the articulation of the value system and the language of social interaction. The presentation of the cultural information is done through drawings and narratives at the expense of photos and dialogues. The drawings do not illustrate the Amazigh native culture but rather report a type of global culture. Therefore, the presentation of culture in the Amazigh textbooks is more geared toward transmitting knowledge about cultural themes, patterns, and behavior than the practical application of that knowledge and the cultivation of the learners' aptitude for their appropriate use, which is one of the aims of the teaching of Amazigh.

In a world of rapid change and globalization, skills such as problem solving, decision making and critical thinking are believed to be particularly acute for engineering graduates. While the Moroccan public university has just started to gain interest in critical thinking development (Belghiti, 2012; El Kirat & Belghiti, 2014), the Moroccan engineering education has been fostering such skills for many years now; this has led the English Language Teaching (ELT) guidelines of the Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles (CPGE) in Morocco to clearly emphasize the explicit use of critical thinking instruction in the English courses to develop the students' critical thinking and prepare them for the social and professional life. Accordingly, this study has attempted to investigate the extent to which critical thinking skills are important in the English course in engineering preparatory classes. It has also aimed to investigate the teaching and assessment practices used in the English classes to develop the students' critical thinking skills. Adopting the mixed methods approach, the study focused on the CPGE centers in Meknes, Fez, and Kenitra. The findings of the study revealed that both CPGE students and teachers are aware of the importance of critical thinking at the professional, academic, social and personal levels. The findings also revealed that the teaching and assessment of critical thinking is done in an explicit way in the CPGE English classes.

As a result, Sociolinguistics became a crucial linguistic field in the country. It witnessed significant development since the 1970s since a considerable amount of research was conducted to cope with the constant changes in language policy. While research grew in quantity, there were no significant attempts to closely analyze its contributions and determine its efficiency. To this end, the study at hand provided a general background of the status of sociolinguistic in Morocco. It also reflected on the attitudes of students and professors involved in the field on the status of the latter. Similarly, it investigated the extent to which the Moroccan language policy has impacted research produced in sociolinguistics. Therefore, the results presented the attitudes toward the development and the involvement of sociolinguistic research. It mainly reflected the region of Rabat-Sale and to a lesser extent Casablanca, F...
