Considering that it is rooted in several disciplines, researchers and practitioners have approached learning analytics from a range of perspectives. Although many studies concerning learning analytics have highlighted its great potential for improving learning practice, there is little evidence of successful transfer of the suggested potential into the practice of higher education happening. This clearly indicates a need for rethinking many aspects of learning analytics usage: first, the goals that can be achieved, but also the actions necessary to attain these goals. The aim of the descriptive research presented in this paper is to provide an updated and realistic view of the state of the art in learning analytics, its potential benefits, and tangible challenge...

Experiments are conducted according to the faced centered central composite design at three different transmembrane pressures (1, 2 and 3 bar) and cross-flow velocities (100, 150 and 200 L/h) with and without the usage of Kenics static mixer. For examination of the influence of the selected operating conditions at which usage of the static mixer is justified, a response surface methodology and desirability function approach were used. Obtained results showed improvement in the average permeate flux by using Kenics static mixer for 211 % to 269 % depending on experimental conditions when compared to the system without the static mixer. As a result of optimization, the best results considering flux improvement as well as reduction of specific energy consumption were obtained at low transmembrane pressure and lower feed cross-flow rates.

The proposed purification procedure was implemented and tested in sugar plant JSC "Šajkaška", Serbia. The goal of this study was to evaluate an economic and environmental justification of the applied modifications on an existing raw sugar juice purification process. Material and energy flows before and after the implementation of the modified purification procedure were monitored and obtained results were compared in a 5-year period. Comparable economic and environmental assessment using Life Cycle Assessment method was carried out. Results indicate that modifications contributed to significant decrease in limestone, coke and natural gas consumption which lead to reduced production costs, carbon footprint and cumulative energy demand of raw sugar juice purification. Benefits due to modifications are more pronounced in the years of better sugar beet quality expressed in terms of quotient of purity.

National competitiveness becomes increasingly more relevant in the globalized and interconnected ... more National competitiveness becomes increasingly more relevant in the globalized and interconnected world. This paper aims to summarize main ideas around national competitiveness, its antecedents and indicators, followed by primary research of students' perception of nature of competitive advantage and their personal competitiveness in intertwined global environments. Primary data was collected at four universities in Austria, Croatia, Serbia and USA. Special emphasis is dedicated to pessimism/optimism as extrapolation of personal confidence in the future. The main contribution of the research lies in understanding the place and role of the business education in enhancing competitiveness, whilst for higher education management, the findings provide better understanding of potential avenues for improvements that will result in increased students' confidence levels, with positive impact loyalty and image of business schools. Furthermore enhancement of satisfaction levels among students with overall quality of business education will not alone contribute to optimism and belief in future, and may not be sufficient for securing nation's intellectual capital.

Research paper thumbnail of ERP & Globalization: Challenges and Responses

Globalization, as a term which refers to the processes of international integration, has brought ... more Globalization, as a term which refers to the processes of international integration, has brought along a number of business and technological challenges. Supply chain applications are at the forefront of discussions that center on globalization. But ultimately, corresponding transactions are captured in the back office; and that means core ERP must be able to deal with issues such as currency exchange, multi-site and multi-company transfer of inventory, consolidation, localization, and translation. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a mission-critical component of any globalization strategy. Enterprises aiming to compete in the global marketplace need to be able to comply with international financial and legal requirements – they must be able to think globally but at the same time act (and comply) locally. Enterprises cannot focus on gaining competitive advantage if they struggle to integrate their own international operations. Internal operations must be integrated before intero...

ABSTRACT Business failure of the organization may be caused by its inability to adapt its busines... more ABSTRACT Business failure of the organization may be caused by its inability to adapt its business operations to the changes in the market requirements. This leads to a conclusion that today’s turbulent business conditions impose the need to increase the level of agility of the organization. Agility is defined as the ability of organization to adapt to different business conditions. Thus, a solution should be looked for in the IT systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Competitive Intelligence (CI). The reason why exactly these two systems have been chosen is their focus of analysis. ERP systems are specialized for the analysis of organization’s business operations, and CI systems have been developed in order to analyze the environment. Therefore, the organization can analyze all business operations by using these two systems. The aim of this paper was to determine whether a synergy of these two systems can contribute to higher level of organization’s agility. This paper shows systematic analysis of literature which aim was to determine the contribution of the ERP and CI systems to the agility of the organization and to consider the possibilities of their synergy when used parallel in today’s conditions of successful business operations. This was achieved by considering 35 chosen (selected) scientific papers. The results of analysis showed that the ERP systems, according to most of the authors, do not contribute to the agility of the organization, and the CI systems are the ones which are the most significant component of agility. This synergy can exert influence on the modification of existing business policy or establishment of a new one which would be based both on the analysis of previous business operations and the analysis of business environment, and as a result the organization would have higher level of agility. Based on the obtained results, this paper offers theoretical basis for further research, particularly empirical research, which aim would be to determine the degree of synergy that the ERP and CI systems have in some organizations and their correlations with accomplished (achieved) level of agility of those organizations.

The experimental program spans range of a sedimentation times from 2 to 4 h, for feed flow rates 50 to 150 L/h, at transmembrane pressures covering the range of 1x10^5 to 3x10^5 Pa. ANN predictions of the wastewater microfiltration are compared with experimental results obtained using two different set of microfiltration experiments, with and without static turbulence promoter. The effects of the training algorithm, neural network architectures on the ANN performance are discussed. For the most of the cases considered, the ANN proved to be an adequate interpolation tool, where an excellent prediction was obtained using automated Bayesian regularization as training algorithm. The optimal ANN architecture was determined as 4-10-1 with hyperbolic tangent sigmoid transfer function transfer f...

Although businesses recognize the wealth of information within ERP systems, these systems were not originally designed to provide real-time reports to massive users. The search for a solution that will provide a more flexible and efficient support of decision-making process has led to the emergence of Business Intelligence (BI). The integration of ERP system with the analytical capabilities of BI can be accomplished in several ways depending on the needs and available resources of specific organization. The resources available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are modest and they usually do not have a separate BI system. To meet the analytical needs of SMEs providers of ERP systems are increasingly embedding OLAP technology into their solutions. In extending the standard ERP reporting capabilities the ERP/SME providers (especially local providers) usually rely on Open Source OLAP tools...
