A Look at What A Missionary's Job Is [04 Mar 2008|05:40pm]
[ **mood** | cheerful ] This neat little insight was given by Ashley Lorson, a young woman who served as a missionary in the island of Occidental Midoro which is part of the Philippines ministering to a little known and little loved tribe known as the Katatubo or in less respectful terms, Mangyans with an SDA organization called Laymen Ministries. It's very short and simple, but I think that its something applicable to everyone of us as we continue our walk with Christ. ***_I was clueless of what exactly I would be doing as a missionary when I came to the Philippines. I soon found out a missionary can be a surgeon, a counselor, a teacher, a friend, or a mother, which combine to accomplish the intended job of a fisherman of men. A missionary’s job is to make yourself available to be used by Christ even if you are unsure of how He will use you!***_If you want to learn more about Laymen Ministries and the work that they do all around the world, please go to www.lmn.org . If you want to see more interesting insights on mission work through the eyes and pens of young missionaries serving in the Philippines, please go to www.lmn.org/philippines/wordpress . It's a great site and it has a lot of cool things that I believe many of us can apply to our daily lives. I hope that this proves to be a blessing for you.

In a recent devotional by Elisabeth Elliot, she listed 8 questions to ask before a church should decide to boot out a pastor.(taken from godly_gals and GodlyGals boards)"Before we take such a position of sovereignty, assuming we know the root of the trouble and are warranted in enforcing our "solution," might we not ask ourselves a few questions? (I do not refer here, of course, to cases which unequivocally call for dismissal, such as immorality or heresy.)1. Who called this pastor? Was it the bishop? The church? Was the decision prayed over? Do we believe in the Holy Spirit's guidance?2. Do we understand the shepherd of the flock to be one who bears responsibility and authority? "Encourage and rebuke with all authority" was the apostle Paul's word to a young shepherd (Titus 2:15, NIV). To Timothy he said, "Command and teach" (1 Timothy 4:11, NIV). "Obey your leaders and submit to their authority...so that their work will be a joy, not a burden" (Hebrews 13:17, NIV). Have we respected that divine assignment?( Read more...Collapse )

The Root of Hostility to Others [05 Sep 2006|06:08pm]
This was part of a devotional series by Elisabeth Elliot that I thought hit a lot of really good points. Seemed like something to share here. Hope you all get something from it :)Author: Elisabeth ElliotSource: A Lamp For My FeetScripture: 1 John 1:6-7 The Root of Hostility to OthersWhen personal relationships break down, it is a sure sign that there is some rift in one's relationship with God. The deeper the rift, the broader will be the effect on the human level. Rebellion against our Creator and Redeemer--against the One who designed us and gives us the breath of life and loves us every minute of every day--is not only unreasonable but outrageous. The sense of outrage will reveal itself in our treatment of others. We "get at" God by getting at those He has made, especially those whom his providence has placed close to us. We cannot bear the image of God in them, for we cannot bear the ineradicability of that image in our own being. It is a constant reminder of our own sin, which is the violation of the divine image. Without the consciousness of a legitimate claim on our lives, we could not know sin.To recognize and submit to that claim is to return to peace and fellowship."If we claim to be sharing in his life while we walk in the dark, our words and our lives are a lie; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, then we share together a common life, and we are being cleansed from every sin by the blood of Jesus His Son" (l Jn 1:6,7 NEB).(reposted from godly_gals, cross-posted in some Christian communities)

ATTENTION: Ladies! [02 Apr 2006|11:25pm]
Hi everyone! My name is Liz and I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you all about an online ministry geared toward young women. It's called GodlyGals. We've had a community here on lj for some time now (godly_gals), but now things are getting started in other areas. Our message board is up (http://godlygals.com/board) and very soon we will have our online magazine going (http://godlygals.com- nothing there yet!).We discuss current events, issues that are a concern, dating, health, and lots of other things that are deemed appropriate. Soon we will also have a Bible study, book club, prayer list, and lots of discussion over Biblical topics. We need people to join and help us build this ministry!God has laid it on my heart to minister to young women and I am using the talents he has given me and the avenues he has opened for me to do so. I would really appreciate you taking a look at what we have and becoming a part of what I truly believe is something that will bring glory to God. Thank you!(Cross-posted to a lot of places. I'm very sorry if you see this thing more than once!)
