caithion: Slayers Challenge

Hey, this community has been very quiet lately. Mod-mistress, do you mind if I post about it in my journal and try to cajole more people into joining us?

Fandom: Slayers
Title: none (from the doujinshi "Seesaw Game")
Author: Tamiko Yuuya
Pairing: none
length: 4 pages

This is a kanji and handwriting challenge, thought the writing is amazingly neat (and big!) for a doujinshi. It's about Xellos. I haven't translated it myself, but I think it may be his first meeting with the Beast Master. He certainly looks younger in this one than in the other stories in this comic. I've been looking all over to see if the author has a web site, but I haven't seen a sign of one. I'm not sure if she is even still drawing. I have two of her comics, which are mostly Xellos/Filia, and I would love to get more.

The pics are a bit big.

girl_starfish: [dj] Pair look!

Sorry this took so long coming! It doesn't help that my scanner has recently started acting up >_> Stupid thing. Anyway, went doujinshi shopping yesterday and found this treasure. It's just one page and I can understand most of it without a dictionary, so I'm sure you guys will do much better!

Series: Full Metal Alchemist.
Medium: Doujinshi.

Doujinshi title: 命の歌の命ずるままに.
Circle name: Rin Rin House。

caithion: Some HikaGo shorts

Since this community has been so quiet. These are short & easy 駄漫画, but I'm too lazy to scan anything tonight. And they're so cute!

Circle: 100box
Pairing: Aki/Hika

You can find them at the circle's website 100BOX --> GO Site --> AXH --> Comics

Circle: HATOMILE
Pairing: Hika/Aki

I love her longer djs, but her short stuff is so funny! And more challenging than 100BOX. I especially like the one titled: 進藤BD漫画. You can find them at the circle's website HATOLINE --> ヒカルの碁 --> scroll down to 駄漫画

As a special challenge, want to try translating the author's notes underneath?

girl_starfish: hate to nag, but ...

... I can't scan and post the manga summary at the start of an FMA tankoubon until I hear back from you guys! Please let me know if you are okay with possible spoilers and if not, what chapter of the manga you've read up to.

Thanks! I would like to get this underway ASAP, as I'm having mad fun working on these with you guys.

caithion: 'lo

I am one of the last of fendom who hasn't really read/watched Fullmetal. Please don't stone me.

Wanted to share my favorite on-line translation resource, though many of you may already know it: The Monash U WWWJDIC

Also, what other fandoms are people interested in? If you'd like, I can post doujinshi stuff from Lupin III, Yu Yu Hakusho, Eroica, Slayers, Hikaru no Go, Final Fantasy VIII, Juuni Kokki, and Lord of the Rings.

girl_starfish: FMA manga?

hinotori suggested that if we're going to be translating a lot of FMA dj, which I suspect we are, that a list of alchemical terms or something might be a good idea. To that end, what do you guys think about translating some of the manga? I have tankoubons 1-8, but I don't know how far the manga you guys have read, and if you're even interested, or are trying desperately to avoid spoilers or what. I flicked through the animation book last night, hoping that it might have some character info or something that would be fun to translate, but the entire book is pictures with a 3 page interview at the end. I was thinking that if you guys weren't interested in the actual manga, then maybe the summary things at the start of each volume? Let me know what you think. ^_^

girl_starfish: [dj scans] Dream

I chose this one because again, its very short--only the two pages, and the first page is pretty self explanatory. Also, Private Label does good stuff. ^_^

Series: Full Metal Alchemist.
Medium: Doujinshi.

Doujinshi title: ロケット ダイヴ.
Circle name: Private Label / Fuji Shinichi.

girl_starfish: (no subject)

I'm about to hunt through my doujinshi for another little something we can work on, because everyone who's expressed an interest in this so far also likes FMA, and well, I figure we can't really go wrong there.

Before I do though I'd like to hear your opinions on what we translate? I hope evanivalae doesn't mind me quoting her, but she suggested "What might be fun is to encourage various types of scans/posts -- we could try to tackle a web page some time, for instance, or perhaps a magazine article/blurb. That way there's a little practice for various levels, as well as some vocabulary/constructs that might be specific to various media."

I happen to agree. And I don't want you guys to think that I'm the only one allowed to post stuff either. So ... are there any things you'd like to see? Being in Japan I have access to a lot of junk that might otherwise be hard to find, so if you'd like me to look out for manga/dj for a specific series or something, let me know.

girl_starfish: [dj scan] squeaky clean

The first project!

This is prompted partly by the fic / pic challenge lj communities I've encountered, and the fact that my Japanese is nowhere near as good as I want it to be. The idea is that like the challenge communities, we have a project set on a daily/weekly basis, only rather than a fic etc., we have to translate something. Sound interesting? I hope so. Leave a comment if you're interested or have a suggestion or so forth.

I thought it would be a good idea to start with something short, cute and amusing ... and by that I of course mean Ed.

Series: Full Metal Alchemist.
Medium: Doujinshi.

Doujinshi title: Empty Rave.

Any questions?
