University Leadership Preparation Programs: An Overview of Best Practices, 2018

These challenges are relevant to all institutions of higher education and they demand global leadership attention. In addition to these challenges, there exists a growing expectation for leaders in higher education to have an understanding of the goals, needs, and perceptions of the many diverse stakeholders who maintain an interest in universities and colleges. Higher learning system in the Asian region is facing new challenges, namely limitation of resources, massification, privatization and corporatization, information and communication technologies, globalization, in addition to knowledge based society and knowledge-driven economy. Given this turbulent environment, there is a vital need for increased attention to leadership development within universities and colleges.
Leadership training and development are growing at a rapid pace and day by day they are becoming more important, this is due to the increase in innovation and increase in workplace complexity. In order to become successful university leaders, aspiring administrators must be prepared with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to assume their future roles. A key line of research in leader development addresses the identification of the competencies (skills, knowledge, attitudes and abilities) that enable persons to exercise leadership functions in working environments. It is normally accepted that human competency development emerges, born talents apart, from the interaction of two main sources: experience and education.
The modern era of accountability has caused both practitioners and researchers to advocate that leadership preparation programs must include features not essentially a decade ago and should frequently evolve to meet new requirements. So, the purpose of this research is to track the past studies on university leadership preparation programs of selected countries and the program insights to tailor the requirements in order to best prepare administrators for their future roles.

Worldwide trends in tertiary education, as well as the changing external environment, put many challenges for the university leaders. To meet the demands of an increasingly dynamic and complex environment many university leaders have begun searching for ways to be resilient and receptive to these changes in order to stay competitive. This study offers university leaders a way to face external changes and disruptions in line to make their institutions perform better internationally. It investigated the role of self-efficacy and learning orientation on the performance of university leaders. It also proposed and tested the moderating effect of dynamic environment on the above-mentioned relationships. The research used the quantitative method and a population comprised 242 usable questionnaires that were collected from the leaders of public higher education institutions of Pakistan. The proposed structural equation model was evaluated with Partial Least Squares (PLS) techniques. Results showed support for the theoretical model that was considered. The findings suggest that self-efficacy and learning orientation is linked with performance in such a way that it nullified the moderating effect of dynamic environment. This investigation has importance for both savants and specialists in improving university leadership with a revolutionary approach; also this research helped to provide a conceptual anatomy to trigger future investigations and theory on strengthening university leadership.

It also proposed and tested the moderating effect of dynamic environment on the above stated relationship. Quantitative approach was adopted through survey instruments design and the population of study comprised leaders of public sector universities of Punjab, Pakistan. Data collection was made through questionnaires and the constructs used were adapted from prior research and were already tested for reliability. The proposed structural equation model was assessed with Partial Least Squares (PLS) techniques. Results indicated support for the theoretical model that was considered. The research implemented a quantitative method through survey instruments design and the population of the investigation was the leaders of public sector higher learning institutions of Punjab, Pakistan. Data gathering was done through questionnaires, and the variables studied were adapted from past research and already verified for reliability. The projected structural equation model was analysed with Partial Least Squares (PLS) techniques. Outcomes showed support for the theoretical model that was studied. The results propose that learning orientation and managerial competency is linked with performance. The article has significance for both practitioners and academicians by summarizing the conclusions of this study and constructing a connection to its valuable application for thriving university leadership.

This research explores the relations between learning orientation, self efficacy and performance of university leaders. The notion of entrepreneurial leadership has received somewhat little concentration in the tertiary education leadership studies. The research also proposed and analysed the mediating effect of entrepreneurial leadership on the above stated relationships through which university leaders would be capable to improve their performance.
The research used a quantitative method through survey instruments model and the population of the research was the leaders of public sector higher education institutions of Punjab, Pakistan. The suggested structural equation model was examined with Partial Least Squares (PLS) methods. Results showed support for the theoretical model that was studied. The outcomes imply that learning orientation and self efficacy is linked with performance. Also, the suggested mediating process was empirically justified.
The major goals are to prepare a theoretical framework to trigger future research and theory on edifying university leadership and to realise how such leadership builds and has significance for effective performance. The paper has importance for both academicians and practitioners by summarizing the outcomes of this research and building a link to its useful application for developing university leadership.

Centered on 22 primary studies of quantitative nature, the present meta-analytic review verifies how transformational leadership has a positive linkage to organizational and employee performance across all the industrial, educational and banking sectors of Pakistan. Furthermore, the analysis revealed how transformational leadership had a positive role in promoting performance instilling variables like innovation propensity, employee job satisfaction, enhancement of organizational commitment, situational strength, job satisfaction, employee motivation, academic leadership behavior (in reference to higher education perspective), problem solving, innovative work behavior (especially in the banking sector), job success and career satisfaction, organizational performance outcomes, organizational citizenship behavior and job fulfilment and school factors of effectiveness (in the educational institutions of the country) at both employee and the organizational level in the country.

It is crucial to study workplace harassment in depth to understand its pros and cons and the interventions that can be made to eliminate or reduce this deviant behavior in workplace to make them better and more productive. The primary objective of this research paper is to give readers an overall review of workplace harassment from past three decades. This review addresses the definition, constructs, antecedents, consequences and interventions studied from 1991 to 2018: research work on workplace harassment started properly in 1990s and got more attention after 2000 that’s why this review covered quantitative and qualitative articles from 1991 up till now. Meta-analysis is conducted to collect significant information about workplace harassment that can lead us to understand where the research in this field is lacking and what should be done in future research studies on workplace harassment. From this review, it was found out that workplace harassment moved from basics to complexity after 2000. Interventions to address this issue have been made but they are not in effective practices to reduce this problem in workplace.
