At present, the engineers prefer relatively simple back inverse methods, however it does not necessarily lead to the desired results. Between the current methods to perform back analysis of soil parameters the method based on the artificial neural networks is the one which is used in the Czech Republic. After a short introduction the principles of the prediction of the tunnel deformation using multi-layer neural network with back propagation are described. At the end of the paper the practical application of the neural networks in the back analysis is shown.

This simplified quasi-static procedure is to some extent very conservative. The article describes the limits of this method and brings out the comparison using theoretical numerical examples with other approaches. The first, is a calculation method introduced in the American NHCRP 661, the second, is the Chen and Liu method and the last one is the Mylokanis et al. method.

Most of the problems associated with open cracks in reinforced concrete industrial floors do not ... more Most of the problems associated with open cracks in reinforced concrete industrial floors do not arise from technological indiscipline in the execution or exceeding the permitted floor load, but from the geotechnical profile beneath the floor. In the presence of swelling soil in the subsoil, the floors can then be shifted upwards by centimeters and create open cracks. This article describes regression relationships for the prediction of swelling pressure and deformation of reinforced concrete industrial floors based on indirect measurements. These relationships were obtained by evaluating a large database of measurements carried out by the company GeoTec-GS and the Czech Technical University in Prague using neural networks, multiple correlation, regression analysis, and sensitivity analysis. The article also presents the actual classification of the risk of surface damage of reinforced concrete floors due to swelling of the subsoil and an example of its application is given.

(2008). Our goal is to derive their basic properties including the orthogonality properties and Rodrigues formula. Furthermore, we define a new polynomial associated with the Hermite-Hermite matrix polynomials and establish the matrix differential equation associated with these polynomials. We give the addition theorems, multiplication theorems and summation formula for the Hermite-Hermite matrix polynomials. Finally, we establish general families and several new results concerning generalized Hermite-Hermite matrix polynomials.

Three partial tasks have been prepared to study the behaviour of the models: reduction of the tunnelling effects on the Minorits' monastery by means of jet-grouting curtain; behaviour of the Hvizd'alka backfilled tunnel; numerical analysis of the supporting measures with effect on the tunnel deformation of the Prague road tunnel Mrazovka.

Fr... more The paper is focused on the evaluation of the effect of earthquakes on underground structures. Free-field analysis is one solution of this task common mainly in engineering tunnelling practice, but it has some rather simplified aspects (e.g. equivalent shear strain is constant). Pseudostatic finite element calculation combines free-field analysis and the advantages of a FEM model. Dynamic effects are introduced in the form of displacements prescribed along the vertical boundaries of the FEM model in a usually static manner. This approach also implies constant material parameters for the geological profile in the horizontal direction, an arbitrary geometry of excavation, soil structure interaction and description of share waves as a time-dependent 1D analysis of the so called free-field column. Moreover, there is shown an example comparing pseudo-static FEM analysis with an analytical method. Finally, the advantages of the pseudo-static FEM method are presented.
