The system is made up of a designed microcontroller based and has a barricade done with a servo motor to allow only vehicle with the approved collected toll fee to pass. The traditional development methodology was adopted for the development of this system. Top-down design approach was adopted for both hardware and software developments. The main sub units of the system include power supply unit, smart card unit, Keypad input unit, control unit, display unit and servo motor unit. This system works with the principle that when the driver swipes his card on the card reader, the system will request for a password, when the entered password is correct, it will deduct the cost of the gate fee directly from the driver's account. If this transaction is successful, a signal logic will be sent to the servo motor to remove the barricade so that the vehicle can pass.

Home automation systems are required for energy savings, safety, protection and convenience use o... more Home automation systems are required for energy savings, safety, protection and convenience use of appliances in any developing economy. This system invented to keep home appliances safe against current fluctuations on the load, reduce energy wastage and protections of life and properties of the owner or user. In this current work, we proposed suitable technique known as Android Base Improved Automation App (ABiAA) for design and application of GSM-based home-automations system using Android Application that consumed very low power. This system comprises of wireless home-network that contains GSM modem along with magnet followed by relay that act as “load protective device”. The system can response faster when power is restored and GSM module would alert home owner via SMS with recorded voice that Electricity is restored for the owner to POWER (ON) the loads. This Home/Office automation system use in alerting house/offices owner wherever he is; at any given time so that he can power ON the required loads that are necessary supposed to be ON as required. The default mode is such that once the Electricity is interrupted, the loads are switched OFF thereby providing energy savings to the owner and safeguarded the connected appliances as well as safety of life and properties that would have resulted from fire outbreak. In this arrangement, a magnet and relay positioned at point of entry produce signal via telecom network and relay message that gives information concerning update at home or pre-defined and detailed messages that are stored in micro-controller. Suspected set of activities are moved to local-user via SMS. This design reduces the energy wastage and inefficiencies. The different results obtained show that the project worked based on specification of the design. But every system has its pros and cons. Our proposed system is easy to implement and understand.

This research was conducted to foster solution to soot production problem during gas flaring by d... more This research was conducted to foster solution to soot production problem during gas flaring by designing industrial gas burner that will effectively burn the gas and prevent release of soot. To achieve this objective, two different natural gas samples labelled A, B with different methane composition of 70% and 60% respectively where investigated at different flow rate ranging from 50-250kg/hr. taking into consideration two different burner dimension which include burner pipe diameter and burner pot diameter. Aspen HYSYS simulation software version 8.1 was used to simulate the flare burner system while analytical models were used to ascertain relationship between the parameters. The results of simulation showed that as the mass flow rate of natural gas increased from 50-250kg/hr. the mass of air required for complete combustion increased from 130-340kh/hr. for sample A, 160-395kg/hr. for sample B, While the analytical developed showed that as mass flow rate of natural gas increases from 50-250kg/hr. burner pipe diameter increased from 18-56cm for sample A, 22-63cm for sample B while burner pot diameter increased from 18-56cm for sample A, 22-75cm for sample B. it is therefore concluded that lighter gas sample required lesser air, smaller burner diameter, smaller burner pot diameter for efficient flare process.

Relevant metOcean data was used to simulate the environmental conditions. The process was simulated using different wave spectra on OrcaFlex software. JONSWAP spectra results for Umbilical-1 to Umbilical-4 at near-surface current (End A: 850m) showed a Transverse Vortex Force (TVF) range of 0.

Research paper thumbnail of Enhanced Dynamic Droop Control for Microgrid Frequency and Voltage Stabilization Using Hybrid Energy Storage Systems: A SECANT Method Approach

Journal of Engineering, 2024

This paper proposes an enhanced dynamic droop control strategy optimized in active time along with a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) comprising Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), supercapacitors (SUPCA), and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) to improve microgrid stability. The Dynamic Droop Gains (DDG) are continuously tuned using the rapid-converging SECANT numerical method to enhance transient response and steady-state performance, this was achieved using MATLAB/Simulink. The HESS combines the complementary characteristics of BESS, SUPCA and SMES to balance steady power supply and temporary overload capacity. Detailed simulation studies on a microgrid test system verify that the proposed control strategy significantly enhances voltage/frequency regulation, power sharing accuracy, BESS lifespan and overall stability compared to conventional droop techniques. The SUPCA further improves the transient performance and power quality by mitigating fluctuations. The research demonstrates an innovative way to harness advanced control algorithms and emerging storage technologies for next-generation resilient and sustainable microgrids.

The study adopted the survey and experimental research design methods in all the selected Towns, at the same time, a descriptive statistic was majorly employed for their analysis. The analysisresult showed that there is significant dissatisfaction about quantity of (POWER SUPPY) electricity supplied to consumers in various residencia areas as well as the industrial areas and even at that, the electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria will come up with estimated bill for each house to pay Power Bills even when there wasn't Power Supply. The implication is that most industries here left the national grid in search of alternative sources of Power Supply to power their industries and this resulted to high cost of production and the national purchasing power had to surfer it in return. Based on the major findings made, the study therefore recommended that (i) Government should as mater of facts, diversify the source of fuel for Electricity (Power) Generating Stations as this will make an easily accessible and available. (ii) Electricity consumers should show patriotism through prompt payment/settlement of electricity bills for continuity, effective and adequate supply in response from the distribution companies. (iii) Government should provide each residential house with Prepaid Meter.
