femminista - Profile (original) (raw)

Do you believe in political, economic, and social equality of the sexes? Did you know that is what defines feminism? Join the community if you believe men and women are equal and are ready for a community that isn't about man-bashing or hatred.

This community is for any and everyone who considers themselves a feminist or are interested in learning more about feminism. All genders, races, religions, sexualities, etc. are welcome to join. This is an open forum to discuss any and everything involving feminism, feminist thought/theory, feminist figures, legislation effecting the movement, feminist groups and anything else you can think of relating to feminism! Also, feel free to introduce yourself when joining if you like, we'd love to know who you are :)

Just a few simple rules:

1. Be NICE to each other. No disrespect at all will be tolerated in this community. Respect everyone's opinion, even if you completely disagree, there is always a polite way of saying so. Don't patronize people, don't resort to name calling, just be mature.

2. Please put long entries/articles/large photos/etc. behind an LJ Cut.

3. Pornography: I am aware that feminists are pretty split when it comes to pornography, some are for it, some against, this community allows discussion of both sides if RELEVANT..however, this community will not be used for promotion of pornographic sites and similar things. Yes, feel free to post articles debating pornography and feminism, but don't put up a link to some site that IS a porn site.

4. Promotion of other lj communities, personal zines, websites, writings, music etc. IS allow but only if related to feminism.

5. Have

FUN!

"You can kill me as soon as you like, but you cannot stop the emancipation of women," - Tahirih, the world's first Women's Rights Martyr who was killed in Persia in 1852 for taking her veil off and revealing her face in public. She was strangled with a silk handkerchief and was then thrown down a well and had stones and dirt thrown on top of her body.
