Once upon a time... (original) (raw)

**Title:**A Christmas Tale.
Author: fenderlove
Rating: PG.
Notes: The following is set in one of the AUs created by Brian Lynch in the ID Angel comics in which Angel managed to rescue Connor from being kidnapped by Holtz but pushed his friends away in the process and his continuing paranoia. Angel turned to Spike as the only person left who he trusts to care for toddler Connor in his absence.
Summary It's Christmas, and it looks like Santa's running a bit late.

I'm being published! I just got the notification that one of my short stories has been selected for an anthology! :D
I realize that I didn't have to wait as long as some people do to get a work published, and I probably didn't receive as many rejections as other authors have to go through, but it felt like such an eternity of waiting. I'm just beyond thrilled, and I can't wait to have some more information to share with you about the story and the anthology it's going to be included in soon! :D

From Brian Lynch's Facebook:
Franco Urru, my creative partner on so many comic books, including SPIKE:ASYLUM, SPIKE: SHADOW PUPPETS, a ton of issues of ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL, SPIKE:AFTER THE FALL, the SPIKE solo series and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: RAPHAEL, has passed away.
I'll have more to say on the matter, I'm kind of at a loss right now. I will say that getting new pages from Franco in my inbox was the highpoint of any day. I was lucky to have worked with him, for sure. Without a doubt, Chris Ryall pairing us on SPIKE:ASYLUM was the best thing that ever happened to me in the world of comics. He spun my gibberish into beauty. But beyond that, I was just lucky to have known him. He was, in every sense of the word, a great guy. Warm, and genuine. He had a beautiful heart and I already miss him.
RIP Franco Urru
A presto
Franco Urru was truly an under-appreciated comic artist. His style was so unique and beautiful, appearing almost effortless, and I believe that he's the only person to accurately capture Spike on the page. I have been worried about Mr. Urru's health since he had to take a break from IDW's final Spike series. My condolences to his friends, family, and colleagues.

I really appreciate all the thoughts and well-wishes from my F-list. I can't thank everyone enough.

Spoilers: Chris Hemsworth vs. Christopher Eccleston.
Very clear video. Chris Hemsworth's hair makes me so happy. I can't wait to see what Tom Hiddleston's is going to look like (he'll be wearing a wig, whether his hair is longer or shorter because poor Thomas can't take the hair dye or the extensions anymore). I'm hoping for Loki's really long hair, like in the comics so he can pull it up into a pretty ponytail. :D

So, Thor 2 is currently filming in London and will be there for the next two weeks.
Here's some pics on this Tumblr!
Thor's hair is adorable! All those wee braids! OMG!
In related news, Tom Hiddleston, the boy who plays Merlin, and Eddie Redmayne (sp?) were at the Moet event, and they all looked cute as hell. Hiddles even wore a jumper that had little cut-outs for his thumbs in the cuffs. He's a precious baby angel that brings joy to my world.
ETA: I'm in a better emotional place than I was a few days ago. Still not 100%, but I just keep looking at pretty photos of Baby Hiddles to make myself feel better. How is he even real?

*throws another rejection letter onto the pile* After the week I had, this is the last thing I wanted in my inbox. I really thought that this one would be the one that people would like. Should I email the editorial staff and ask for more information why this story "wasn't the right fit?" I feel like publishers just say that in hopes of not completely crushing a person's self-esteem, so it'd probably be pointless to ask. I know it's useless to get upset; I mean, hell, you'd think I'd be used to being rejected at this point, but I got my hopes up again like the fool that I am. I've tried different genres, different tones... Are my characters flat and uninteresting? Is it the dialogue? Are my ideas unoriginal? Is my writing just that awful? I'm tired of ripping myself apart in order to try and figure out why I can't write something publishable.
So much for NaNoWriMo this year. I guess I'll just stick to writing my thesis so I can fail at that too.

Today is my one year anniversary of living in my apartment. Ever since I moved in, I’ve been keeping a board with all the house-warming, birthday, and other holiday-related cards on it, along with all the ticket stubs, souvenir postcards, etc. I’ve accumulated in the last year. It’s quite a bit, so today I’m taking them all down to start anew (with the winter holidays coming, I know I’ve already run out of room). :D
