Friends of the Front Range Wildlife Refuges works to support and advocate for the conservation and restoration of Rocky Mountain Arsenal and Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuges and provide opportunities for the public to experience wildlife near a major metropolitan area in the form of volunteering, events, environmental education, and more.

Take the 11-mile Wildlife Drive auto tour in your vehicle to see the Refuge and its wildlife. Listen to the refuge Audio Tour along the way, which corresponds to each mile marker along the road. The Wildlife Drive takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. View the Wildlife Drive and Trail Map – English, Spanish.
Know Before You Go:
- The Wildlife Drive is open to motorized vehicles; speed limit is 30 mph.
- Follow the directional symbols. Park vehicles only in designated areas on map.
- Stay on paved roads and observe all posted signs such as “Stay in Vehicle” or “Area Closed”.
- Stay in your vehicle when the road becomes one way only.
- Always stay at least 75 feet (23 meters) away from bison.
Refuge Opportunities
Visiting the Refuge is free! The Refuge provides wildlife viewing opportunities, environmental education and interpretive programs, catch-and-release recreational fishing, 20 miles of hiking trails, a self-guided Wildlife Drive auto tour, archery range, and is a sanctuary for more than 330 species of animals, including bison, deer, coyotes, bald eagles and the endangered black-footed ferret. Refuge Hours: Fall, winter, and spring sunrise to sunset. May 1 – August 1 sunrise to 8:00 PM. Visitor Center Hours: Wednesday – Sunday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (closed on federal holidays).
