Hey,
First of all, I'm new here so howdy. I'm from Sydney, Australia and have been studying film for about four years now at school (I just graduated the other day actually), and have spent all of this year working on my own six minute art film. I love all aspects of film, filmmaking and video so I guess I've come to the right place.
The reason I'm posting though is for a competition my friends and I are entering. We've made an incredibly short two minute film called "Funniest Cult Videos", and we have to basically show it around to as many people as we can to win the competition. Since you're all film fans, I'd appreciate it if you would go to the link below and check it out...
We only had about two and a half hours to shoot it, it was pissing down with rain and hail, and so we basically threw this together really hurridly... and it shows.
Sorry, I realise these posts are really annoying, and I swear I'm not usually such a pain in the ass.

i am not the fan of action films that other people are. and even more so, i am not a fan of kung fu films. in fact, i have never thought one was great outside of crouching tiger, hidden dragon. but i really did like this movie. and the soundtrack kicked ass. the rza does the producing, and he put together a classic soundtrack.
i find the story of the bride to be dry. and find the action unconvincing, but i find the movie to be great-ish. i would not say that it is better than most of his films. but it might be third of the four. but you can figure out what you want from that.
needless to say, everyone should see this film. it might be one of the greatest genre-inspired films off all time. and even the anime (which i normally hate) was awesome.

i think this may be one of my favorite movies of all time. there is so much about it that i like. and i can't even begin to describe it all. but it boils down to this: it is a deep and intense movie. the acting is seemless, the soundtrack is briliant, and the filmmaking is classic. and i haven't even began to talk about the plot.
it is all too often that in independent films, you lose that sense of perfection. and i think that i am really glad to see that change. but this is the highest point that i have seen in recent times (barring lost in translation and a few others). the characters are real. and even the most absurd of events is dragged out into the realm of reality, leaving little to be desired.
i don't want to get into the details, because i believe this movie is best seen without any sort of understanding as to what you are getting yourself into.

ok, i don't want to say this movie sucked. it was pretty good for a hollywood movie, i guess. it's really hard to say. i was so constantly offended by the soundtrack and the shabby images, i didn't really have a chance to absorb the film. i did like the story line, which really did save the picture. and the acting wasn't bad either. the problem with this film was more about the basic construction.
i would say that the film went on way too long. i could have saved about a half-hour, at the very least, if i did some editing. not that a film should always be short. after all, magnolia was a masterpiece -- and it was far longer. but it just bored the fuck out of me. and i can't say it enough, i hate that stupid music that tries to drag tears out of you when you wouldn't normally cry.
i wonder if i was the only one that was more concerned with the horse than the characters. and i wonder how good the book was.

if i need to describe clerks to you, then you just haven't gotten around enough. this is one of the cornerstones of film. it is proof that dialogue can make the movie. and it has a certain something that you will never find in another kevin smith film. this is a film that is little more than a piece of art -- a picture of wild realistic exageration. GO AND SEE IT!!!

this is probably one of my favorite movies from the last five years. it is a brilliant rendition of the life of a bohemian drug addict and his love affair with a woman that could only be called his soulmate.
the strength of this movie, beyond all else, is the amazing cast. stars range from billy crudup to jack black to denis leary to dennis hopper. the movie falls right into my passion for the 70s, and the soundtrack is the bomb -- no stupid scores.

really, there is nothing like this movie. in fact, the only valid argument regarding it would be a debate over whether or not reservoir dogs was a better tarantino film. but this thing is just brilliant. it changed the face of movies for the last ten years ... and maybe forever.
it is the intermingling stories of a couple of thieves, a couple of hitmen, a boxer, and a crimeboss and his wife. each story is told on its own, and each leads to a better understanding of the others. on top of that, the cinematography is seemless. each composition is a masterpiece on the screen, yet never does it get in the way of the progression of the film.
the dialogue is classic, and is probably the weakest part of the film. ie, there are no weak parts of the film. the soundtrack is second only to the aforementioned reservoir dogs.
the only reason you may not want to see this movie is the violence. and if that's the case, then fuck off.

i guess this is a no brainer. i mean, this is one of the classic films of all time, and anyone that has not seen it should go out and get it right now ... if you are interested in classic filmmaking.
it is the story of charles kane, based on william randolph hearst -- though not a biopic. he is a dead newspaper tycoon whose life an investigator tries to reconstruct for the secret of his investigation, the tycoon's last words (though it's only one word): rosebud. i guess i will spare you the details, in case you haven't seen it.
the truth is that the film is dated. the writing fails to stand the test of time. but the cinematography is a lesson in the art of film. and it does more than carry the joint. it's the cinematography that tells the story. you literally watch kane grow to a giant over 8 feet tall, via camera angles. you understand how this man can crush you. and, among other things, you get to see just how lonely this man's life was.
as well as the composition, the acting is brilliant, and helps to keep you in your seat when you find yourself confronted with the inevitable question, who cares? and no one does. it is a different message from a different time. but you don't get bored as easy as you might think.
the music is so-so. done well, it is little more than the typical holywood score with some highlights.
