Abstract:

Elihu Katz (born 1926) is an American Israeli sociologist and media scholar who has made substantial contributions to the field of communication, specifically in the areas of media effects, diffusion, uses and gratifications and reception, and media events. This primary portion of Katz's papers documents his scholarly and professional activities at the Guttman Institute of Applied Social Research, and Annenberg Schools for Communication at the University of California and University of Pennsylvania, respectively. Materials pertaining to the University of Chicago, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Israel Broadcasting Authority are also present, but less substantially so. The collection is divided into ten series and includes correspondence; drafts of talks, papers, articles, and books; research notes; conference materials; teaching materials and course documents; public opinion studies and reports; Israeli broadcasting materials; and biographical documents.

Richard R. Schilling III was an American television producer who worked on soap operas and anthology series. He is best known for his work with the soap opera Passions. The Schilling soap opera collection is primarily composed of props, memorabilia, episodes, audio/visual material, and records pertaining to his production work on Passions as well as General Hospital: Night Shift.

Abstract:

Cyrus Adler was a prominent Jewish scholar and communal builder. Born in 1863, he had a tremendous role in shaping much of Jewish America by the time of his death in 1940. The collection contains Dr. Adler's business correspondence and personal papers and spans much of his multi-faceted career. It also contains many papers connected to the formation and day-to-day business of the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning. Abstract:

The Margy and Martin Meyerson collection consists of over 100 items, including ephemeral pamphlets, maps, photographs, brochures, bulletins, policy papers, booklists, investment prospectuses, tourist industry material, as well as government publications, off-prints, monographs and individual serials volumes, documenting the early decades of the modern State of Israel. Especially notable are four beautiful hand-painted Oriental, perhaps Kurdish, Jewish amulets.

Isaac Leeser (1806-1868) was a Jewish religious leader at Congregation Mikveh Israel in Philadelphia, founder of the Jewish Publication Society and The Occident and American Jewish Advocate and translator of religious texts. The Isaac Leeser Collection consists of a full run of The Occident and American Jewish Advocate, correspondence, financial records, legal documents and writings, dating from 1822 to 1868.

The Boonin Family Collection of Immigration Letters comprises a variety of materials related to the Boonin family and the correspondence between family members, mainly in Philadelphia and Russia, from 1884-1991. The material represents an archival history of how the Boonin/Bunin family left Russia, beginning in 1903, and eventually immigrated to the United States in 1911.

This collection consists of thirty-seven letters and/or documents (probably intended for specific recipients) written by Isaac Baer Levinsohn to notable Russian Jews about a wide range of issues including his published works Bet Yehudah and Te'udah be-Yisrael.
