Finishing Works in Progress (original) (raw)

This community is seeing its first finished story, and that means the author gets a shiny, individual banner for it. Alright, so the author is me, which kind of cheapens it a bit, but I'm going to post it here anyway, so you can see how these things look like in the end.

And since we skipped the writing quotes for a while, I finially give you another one. This one is probably true for almost every writer:

I do not like to write - I like to have written.

~Gloria Steinem

Most days, that counts for me.

Week 8

Writing a book is a adventure. To begin with it is a toy and amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him out to the public.

-Winston Churchill

I'm happy to report your mods are back after our vacations and are ready to settle down and focus on writing. How about you all? Ready for some writing?

Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.

A little late this time - as you can see, life is busy even for the mods of livejournal communities. In regard to that, I wanted to find a quote that refelcted on the need to write despite not even having time to breathe - I came across this one instead, and found that in a way it is just as appropriate:

_It took me fifteen years to discover I had no talent for writing, but I couldn't give it up because by that time I was too famous._- Robert Benchley

Week 6

If you can tell stories, create characters, devise incidents, and have sincerity and passion, it doesn't matter a damn how you write.

-Somerset Maugham

I know I often agonize over the small details of my stories. Sometimes you have to turn off the internal editor, listen to your characters and let the story take you away.

As always, please let your moderators know if there's anything we can do to help you.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" I ask.

Shawn smiles, and it scares me.

"Yes," he says.

I guess that's it, then. We're going to kill Laura.

If only everything were that simple.
