"This paper looks at how two immigrant autobiographies can be read and understood from a postcolo... more "This paper looks at how two immigrant autobiographies can be read and understood from a postcolonial perspective. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical framework of Postcolonial Studies and how the presence of a hegemonic “other” can influence the formation of identity. More specifically, I will show how the culture of the “colonizer” is internalized and how the two authors assimilate the cultural dominant before immigrating.
