here's some more info on festigal-

Festigal is a Jacksonville based organization of women and men committed to encouraging women's involvement in the arts and raising awareness of social and political issues. We strive to inform our community on topics such as feminism, health and self-defense. Our goal is united creativity based on love & respect for art, music, activism, each other & our own bodies.

The primary goal of our benefit show on Saturday, July 27, 2002, is to raise money in support of Ladyfest DC, which is from August 7 to 11, 2002, and to collect non-monetary donations for Hubbard House, Inc., the local domestic violence shelter. The secondary (and in some ways, far more important) goal of the all-day event is to promote Feminism, particularly with respect to the arts, and focus on spotlighting the work of Florida women in the arts. We plan on doing these types of benefit events at least twice a year.

The benefit show will take place on Saturday, July 27, downtown Jacksonville at The Imperial Bar & Lounge, 325 W. Forsyth St., from noon to 2 A.M. Requested donations at the door will be $8-12. Discounts will be given to those who bring in non-monetary donations for Hubbard House (e.g., non-perishable food items, tampons, diapers, etc.). Bands who have confirmed to play are the following: Michelle Payne; Beat Cancel; Sweet Valley High; The Quiet Ninjas; Isabella Parole; Christina Wagner; Anastasia; Arendale; My Atari; The Slight; Miss July; The Ta Tas; and Oriflamme. There will also be poetry readings by Amanda Milhoff, Melody White, Nicole Kogos and Jenny Kalota. Information booths dealing with issues important to women (and, to some extent, men as well) will also be set up at the benefit show.
