Shed off the weight Of the cross’s hate Kiss the wheel of fate Let Nature celebrate The Endless stare Roses in hair All her love Is poured into the glass And the flame Lights in the black wax From the tree All the petals grow To nourish soul All leaves decompose In the Ankh’s eye Fear is all that dies In her black lips The laugh of the sunrise From the sea All the isles rose To the water Ea’s lands will go | | | | | | 10. | Casca Dreaming 04:49 | lyrics | buy track | | I have fallen from glory A body crumbling to debris I flash way back to when You defiled me I’m haunted on the black Plains of my dreams Bury me in the shadows Of disease To detach myself From burdens of unease Mother sold me to survive Prey for nobles forced alive You threw down your sword Hawk from a dream “Command your own life, You are free” I walk through this hell Though horrors surround me Rebirth from the strength Of Elfhelm’s healing Restore me under Sacred elven trees I have blossomed Out of petals and of leaves I’ll reclaim myself As my trauma flees I will never let Your torment besiege me | | | |
about
'Diana’s Day' is a spiritual journey through gender, trauma and healing.
I started writing the first songs for this album when I came out in Autumn of 2018. I remember the smell of dying leaves drifting through Baltimore as I made discreet drugstore trips, sneaking off with eyeliner and black lipstick. The music I wrote was the result of exploring my gender at goth nights, and getting really into the back catalogue of Anathema.
Most of the lyrics were written in response to my experience with post-viral ME/CFS, which left me bedridden and immobile for nine months in 2020-2021. I didn’t know what was happening to my body or if I would ever get better. Looking out my window and watching the seasons change was all that made sense to me. I knew that they would always keep turning. Thankfully, I recovered to continue my relationship with the natural world and tell my story. Many do not.
While 'Wings of a Dying Crow' is a starting point I’m still happy with, this feels like the album where Dave, Brady and myself have truly found our sound. I like to think of it as our version of Bad Religion’s 'Suffer,' an album released six years after the band’s debut, but redefined BR entirely and has become one of the most enduring punk albums since. 'Diana’s Day' is an introspective response to the promise of the Deathwave scene, but no less catchy or full of riffs.
