_10:26 am_[sygis] | Erfworld, new areas, wow! Yep, I see I've neglected the LiveJournal usergroup -- whoops/sorry/mea culpa!Been a busy few months -- we've continued to add nearly a new area a month (several with an undersea theme, of late), and we've *just* been mentioned in our own Talisman's separate webcomic, Erfworld! http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0096.htmlAs ever, quests happened, and more coming ... more areas to go in next month ... continually adding more items ... getting newcomers (and we've added a really quick 3 room intro for all new players -- enough to get the truly neophytes started w/o being too much for experienced folks to zip right through! :).So, I'm off, back to Fox itself where I'll be working on another new area -- weeee!! :) Current Mood: busy (Comment on this) |

_6:13 am_[sygis] | Weeee, What's New! Whoops, wow...okay, I neglected posting for a *bit*! We've got a few new areas about to be connected, including a n00bie thief area this weekend ... hint: backstab is level 1 thief skill, so these mobbie have reallybigbacks! ;) Meanwhile, we've tweaked a lot of little stuff to make Fox even funner, added little touches like the ability to list last 2 1/2 dozen channel messages at will (Say what?? indeed :), quested in 'create beer' spell ;') and had our big annual Founder's Day (Nov) and just cycled into our next annual Typo Quest.... (for details, our News within Fox has the full list :). Meanwhile, as ever: "More caffeine does not replace less sleep!" and of course "Fox MUD -- more fun than sleep!" See you around! (*must remember to post more soonerer* ;') Current Mood: sleepy (Comment on this) |

_7:40 am_[rgautier] | Fox Outage on Halloween (spooky!) Halloween seems to have brought about some minor calamity that is affecting Fox's network connectivity. Fox is temporarily down (UPDATE: WAS temporarily down). The administrators are trying to solve the problem, and we'll get it fixed as soon as possible. We're very sorry about the outage, and Lord K'sah has been dispatched to the office of the ISP to 'persuade' them to work on our issue. (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_4:03 pm_[rgautier] | Fickle Here Just wanted to say that I am still around. This past weekend I plugged some leaks in Fox, memory leaks that is. I'm back for a while to help with sweeping up after all the wonderful work Sygis has been putting into the code base! With a new tool under my belt, I should be even more effective and finding and slaying the little bug beasties. There's plenty going on on the mainland, and as a player I've noticed that there's heaps more content for me to learn. It never ceases to amaze me that as much as I know about Fox, there's always more to be discovered...new continents, new areas, new skills and capabilities, new items, new item TYPES...Please come and visit us if you want to experience true adventure. _10:08 pm_[sygis] | Hot Wombat Soup! :) Hi All, just passing through, and Morgul was passing out bowls of hot wombat soup. :) Working on new areas, debugging as needed, and pondering a few new spells to add over the next weeks. Meanwhile, our little collective imagination is a bit busy *cheer* and folks are just hanging out, chatting, gaining exp, exploring, and learning new tricks with their familiars (which rent with you and gain exp *woowoo* :). Hope to see you there some evening, Sygis who works on many things at once ;') Current Mood: == tired && bemused (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_8:41 pm_[sygis] | So far, so good! :) So far, so good! We've managed to keep pretty close to a new area a month, and our Item of the Day feature is going strong (randon ID daily swapped out in helps -- thanks to Fickle we can update helps on the fly, w/o needing to reboot changes in :). Not so good on the Herald, but that'll come around -- please be patient, as we all enjoy putting that together, but rl has us all swamped atm. Quests pretty often ... in fact we're due for one...sometime soon! Getting hard to find dead time to reboot ... we go days now without lack of active players (ah, it's nice, thanks all! :) Check us out -- we just get better every day! _1:18 pm_[sygis] | Rumors of a vast new city, lurking in darkness... For years, rumors have circulated about Fellport, a city hidden deep in an undersea cavern, completely sealed off from the rest of the world, port to an undeasea lake. Rumored to be steeped in darkness, both the lightless murk without and the cold hearts within her residents, the Dark City Under the Sea holds many secrets, and not a few dangers. Word has now reached the known world that some may have found this elusive city. If so, it may only be weeks until travellers can explore this legendary enigma.... (Comment on this) |

_2:54 am_[sygis] | Weekend: more time, poorer connection? Well, of course it's a coincidence, but ironic nonetheless.... Seems one of the routers upstream of Fox MUD's site is flapping in the breeze, leaving folks downstream (like Fox) with a connection varying from perfectly great, fine, and okay to (minutes later) suddenly hung like a do until 1 == 2 loop (followed shortly by your connection timing out in most cases). Repeat this every few minutes for over a day -- "Oh, we're back, cool ... anyways....erk...hung again!?!" I'm sure lots of folks will be happier when this is fixed! :) (Comment on this) |

_10:40 pm_[sygis] | After the holidays, more good stuff :) Happy New Year all, and hope you had a Merry Christmas and/or other assorted holidays. :)We got the Mage Maze connected, and it's a blast! Darlentian had a great vision, drew up great plans with copious notes, and Sygis (me) implemented the designs. I think it turned out pretty well, and is a lot of fun. Designed for newbie mages, it really gives them a nice place to start. I'ld suspect they can level pretty steadily in there for the first few levels, and would have to really try to get killed doing so. (Of course, 'consider' helps ;')We're continuing to get newbie areas connected (not that we don't already have a vast selection for all levels, but rounding out the collection always helps :). And little by little, bit by bit, Fox keeps getting better every day (a new item), every week (a new mob) and every month (a new area ;').Down the road only a bit is the other end of the spectrum: a Lord level city for our Lord level continent (Lords are mortals who have maxed their levels in two classes, and gain special spells or skills in their prime class). Fellport is on the radar again, and this time we'll find a way to get it connected within a couple months (sooner if possible, but done right it's a pretty major area :).Meanwhile, save often, keep a recall handy, and be excellent to each other, Sygis :) (Comment on this) |

_6:09 am_[sygis] | Mage Maze soon... The new Mage Guild of Dakron Bae will soon be opening its Mage Maze ... probably a couple days at most, and before Christmas, to be sure. :) It's an ongoing implementation of Darlentian's concepts and outlines. (And, yes, it was actually something laid out on paper in the late 1990's, so in spite of the recent release of a very good young wizard's school movie featuring a maze, it was an original idea, like all of our areas. ;')So, if you're creating a newbie mage prime, this might be a good place to learn the ropes (hedge maze, clockwork mobs, mages have a small edge there, and its a very forgiving 'maze' which actually encircles the Guild of Mages, save for a walkway between the main entrance, the two hedge maze entrances, and Seer Street in Dakron Bae). Should be great fun, and also designed for those who pay at least mild attention to their surroundings. ;')Have fun and take care, Sygis :) (Comment on this) |

_5:37 am_[sygis] | Quests, Familiars, and Folks :) We've been having Quests several times a week, and everybody's been having fun (and been earning someQuest Points ... good for so many things ;). One player has been mapping like mad, and is pulling ahead in these quests (knowing how to get there from here seems to be useful ... imagine that ;')....and with the holiday season upon us, Santa might be needing a little help from our players (read: Quest -- and who gives better presents than Santa, eh? ;')Familiars are really getting fun, and as we add in more features for them, they'll be even funner! (funnier?) (funnerestist?) Heh, and we're soon to have even more creatures you can familiar, too. :)Finally, familiar folk finding Fox furthers ...well, it's neat to see 'em come back, frankly! :)And as more old time builders return, we'll have more new and fantastic things to explore and gather....Ooooo :)Take care, all, and see you around. :)Fox MUD, an original and innovative world to explore, expanding and improving since 1993,Sygis :) Current Mood: satisfied (Comment on this) |

_10:38 pm_[rgautier] | Changes to Fox MUD Website The Mortal Equipment List, rescued from the Internet Archives (The Wayback Machine) has been reposted as a link on the Fox MUD Home page. The equipment list is old, but has a LOT of information on it. I'm sure that more equipment will/can be added as it is discovered. If you have equipment you'd like to see on the list, please post it here, or email it to Fickle so he can put it on the list of things to add. Also, a new newspaper has been seen in Dakron Bae. Word is that Ingrid and the town crier are both selling this weekly publication and that it has information on the goings-ons of the main town, Dakron Bae. This week's publication has an article on the new Mage's Guild.Hope to see you online soon!Fickle Current Mood: sleepy (Comment on this) |

_10:18 pm_[rgautier] | Hi There! This is Fickle from FoxMUD, one of the creators working on stuff behind the scenes to try to bring you the best MUDDing experience you'll ever have. FoxMUD was recently ressurected from the ashes, and I'm glad to say that it's going to be more alive than it ever was. We're changing how we run things a bit, and trying to have as much fun with as we can. We've added some things recently, like an improved inline editor for the message boards and notes, and we've added in things that will allow us to have automated quests. A new Mage's Guild has been put in place, with plenty to explore, and a new newspaper can be bought at the Rathskeller that I hear will have weekly ongoings published in it!For those of you who haven't played FoxMUD since before 2002, you've got to try it out again. The whole face of the MUD has changed for the better! Check out the 'news' when you login (with a new character or your old one! NO PWIPES, ever [again...]! We promised, and we're sticking to it!See you in Dakron Bae!Fickle Current Mood: cheerful (1 Comment |Comment on this) |
