Helping to feed the world sustainably
À propos
The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) was founded in 1927 and is the only global fertilizer association, with around 500 members encompassing all actors in the fertilizer value chain – from producers through traders and distributors, as well as service providers, agtech startups, advisors, research organizations and NGOs – with a mission to promote efficient and responsible production, distribution and use of plant nutrients. This mission plays a critical role in helping to feed the world sustainably. IFA represents providers of plant nutrition solutions. Members include fertilizer producers, traders and distributors, as well as their associations, service providers to the industry, research organizations, ag-tech startups and non-governmental organizations. IFA does not condone or endorse price related messages being posted on IFA social media sites.

IFA delegation is returning from #COP29. IFA represents an industry that is part of the problem, and a huge part of the solution. In fact, part of many solutions - from better management of plant nutrition on farms, to using ammonia as a shipping fuel. This year's COP has been dubbed the “Finance COP”, because of the focus on how to pay for all the good solutions we can implement - both in mitigation and in adaptation. COP29 is trying to get closer to these answers. We are realizing that changing the way we develop is costly. Words don't mean actions. We need to find a way to make actions profitable so that we crowd in companies, private sector, private finance. And to do that, we need to invite them to the table.... Are we ready to do so?#COP29Azerbaijan #energy #food International Fertilizer Association (IFA) - International Fertilizer Association (IFA) a republié ceci
🌱 Plant Nutrients: Key to Alleviating Chronic and Hidden Hunger 🌱 Worldwide, nearly 10% of the population suffers from chronic hunger, while 25% face hidden hunger due to nutrient deficiencies. 😢 Our Issue Brief “Plant nutrients are essential for the alleviation of chronic and hidden hunger” delves deep into how plant nutrients can address these challenges. By ensuring plants receive the optimal amount of their essential nutrients, we can enhance crop productivity and nutritional value, ultimately leading to healthier diets for everyone. 🥕 At the heart of our discussion is the dual role of mineral elements in both plant and human health. 💚 We outline the following actionable solutions: 🌾 Raising awareness about responsible plant nutrition 🌾 Improving crop-specific nutrient delivery 🌾 Developing sustainable strategies for nutrient delivery through agro-biofortification 🌾 Diversifying cropping systems and genetically enriching crop varieties Who needs to take action? 💪🏽 From policymakers and the fertilizer industry to farmers, scientists, and civil society organizations, everyone can play a role in alleviating chronic and hidden hunger. Dive into our Issue Brief and discover how strategic plant nutrition can pave the way for a healthier, more nourished world https://lnkd.in/ezSXYngE #FoodSecurity #Nutrition #SustainableAgriculture #PlantNutrition #GlobalHealth

COP29 is underway in Baku. This is the year of "triple COP", and some of us already forgot Biodiversity COP16 in Cali. Reflecting on the whirlwind of COPs, the focus of the work in Cali was on ensuring the effective implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at COP15 in Montreal. During my time in Cali, it became clear that reaching consensus on some 23 targets will not be easy. And what's the key roadblock? Finance. I will wager a bet that finance will emerge as a critical lever of success of the COP trifecta this year. While funding dedicated to natural preservation and restoration has increased, we are not on track to hit the targets agreed in Kunming/Montreal gathering. Progress towards closing this gap will not be linear. Questions about where the funding will come from are already splitting opinions and creating a divide between developing and developed countries - between those pushing for greater private investment and those prioritizing grants to avoid worsening existing debt burdens. The work continues, and our industry is critical in ensuring that we produce enough good food for all, on the land we use, sustainably.#cop16 #Biodiversity #GlobalBiodiversityFramework #SustainableAgriculture #finance -

𝐈𝐅𝐀 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐎𝐏𝟐𝟗 🌱 On November 12, IFA hosted 'Is Net-Zero Food within reach?' on the FAO & CGIAR Pavilion. Our expert speakers shared thoughts on how to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from fertilizers, and methane emissions from livestock. Here are some of the many highlights: 🌍𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫: The 2024 Breakthrough Report and Global Nitrous Oxide Assessment Report both show the impact that technology deployment can have on reducing emissions from agri-food systems, while increasing crop yields and preserving growers' livelihoods. 🚜𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥: Technologies such as green ammonia, nitrification inhibitors, and methane inhibitors are already impacting emissions. 🌾𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜: Farming systems are very diverse, and not every tool will work for every grower. 🏛️𝐀𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲: Starting with the assessment and re-purposing of subsidies towards low-carbon practices, and supportive regulation. The Efficient Fertilizer Consortium (EFC) is accepting applications for field trials to evaluate the agronomic performance and environmental impact of enhanced efficiency fertilizers (EEFs) across a range of geographic locations, cropping systems, climates and soil types. Topics that are in-scope include: - Stacking EEF(s) with field management (e.g. tillage, cover crops, tile drainage) and 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices - Nutrient carryover effects from EEFs and crop rotations that include legumes. - Identification of EEFs that work best to support crop nutrition, yield and nutrient use efficiency in specific climates, soils and cropping systems. - Agronomic and environmental tradeoffs resulting from the implementation of EEFs and other management and 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices. - Fertilizer technologies, including enzyme inhibitors, slow- and controlled-release fertilizers, biofertilizers and nanofertilizers. Pre-applications are due on 11 December 2024. Check it out at https://lnkd.in/e2s8NHga
Efficient Fertilizer Consortium 2024 Request for Applications https://foundationfar.org - IFA's Sustainable Fertilizer Academy (SFA) has resumed its educational initiative in West Africa through its partnership with the West African Fertilizer Association (WAFA). This regional program is delivering targeted workshops in universities across the Ivory Coast and Mali. Students participate in select SFA classes designed to address West Africa’s specific agronomic and sustainability challenges, such as soil fertility management and nutrient efficiency. Last week's workshops were held at the Institut International des Affaires Entrepreneuriales (International Institute of Entrepreneurial Affairs) on its Abidjan and Yopougon campuses. A total of 53 students participated from the Abidjan campus, while approximately 100 students joined from the Yopougon campus. Altogether, more than 1000 students have participated in these workshops to date, gaining essential skills and knowledge to support sustainable agricultural growth in the region. The workshops are part of a broader mission to share best practices within West Africa’s agricultural sector.
