Drew's publisher is currently working on editing his autobiography and wanted to know if there are any publishable picture of him from Freak Manor. We'd need to know who else in in the pictures to get their permission, and (here's the hard part) the photos would would need to be naughty bits free. (lol) If you have any photos, you can email me at ms.syren@gmail.comI'll also be at NorwesCon. Miss Syren | |

A much needed update | [09 Sep 2008|10:26pm] |
---|---|
A much needed update:Okay so I know, I'm horrible with keeping people updated. It's not that I mean to be this horrible, things have just been busy. Summer is long gone and well what can I say, I got caught up in the world of working all summer long here. I did have some good times though. So here is an update on things broken down into categories and such. This isn't as recent as I would like it to be, however I though I would send something so that I can at least keep people up to date. Work update:Okay so I got promoted lin March to the Lead teacher for the ALT's of my company in Saitama. Meaning I get to hear, take care of, and semi organize 21+ teachers complaints. Let's just say that so far it has been a headache on and off, but it's a good work experience. My schools are great and the teachers claims to like me a lot. The students especially enjoy me, to the extent that when they see me outside of school with their parents or friends they will either say hi to me, or as some of my elementry school kids do, come up and hug me. They always try to talk to me in English. I have surprised a few parents since some of the student don't speak a lot of English at home. They are now speaking it a lot more then they use to now. I have even had parents say thank you. Then they ask if I will be here next year and hope that I stay to teach their other kid(s) next year and the year after, etc. However this job does take a lot out of me, I usually end up taking a nap on the train home. My schools also tend to let me relax after having a slew of classes in a row. ( I teach from 4-6 classes a day.) Wow, and I thought that cooking was hard. I miss that job, but I love this one a lot. However I am looking into other countries and jobs. Not that I dislike Japan, I just am starting to feel the strain of being in a foreign country where not many people speak the same language as you, and your looked at and treated as though you are an alien. I have been asked so many times if I am from Ghana, or from somewhere in Africa. Overall I am beginning to miss being able to asks some one how to get to a place or make an appointment and not having to lug a dictionary around. My Japanese has improved, but it still needs a lot of work. Relationship update:If you haven't hear Matt and I broke up. A lot of things went into this, however it just wasn't working. It's fine, right now we are trying to be friends. However that is proving to be a very hard process on its own since we both are now with other people. All I can say is that life will go on and what happens happens. The guy I was with though is now back in England, however I am going there this winter to visit and explore. It's good to travel to places and explore. Living update: Okay so since February I was living in a guest house in Kita Koshigaya. It wasn't bad, minus the cockroaches, the hole under my bed that I discovered in June, the mold that wouldn't go away, and the noise. I mean the people were nice and all and it was a really cool place to well stay for my first few months. I made some friends who later moved themselves, and well it was okay. However the rent was high and I wanted to be in a more peaceful area so that I could get my 8 hours of needed rest. So I moved to a small condo. I share it with another person but neither of us are really home a lot. We both are busy with work, she works midday to night, I work morning to night so we don't see much of one another. However she is a great girl thus far and is also from America. She has lived in Japan for 11 years and does private teaching. In a way it works since I have a better place and such. Also I have a kitchen. YAY!! I get to cook now. Woot!! besides that its been great so far. I even got a bed, well a futon. Western beds in Japan are not the same at all. I'm enjoying my futon way more then I did the bed I was sleeping on at the guest house. It's nice,I get to go home to a actual room instead of a hole in the wall. Also I ended up getting a small part time job just to save up more money and to have something to do in my free time. Summer plans: Okay so I was going to come home and vist. Sorry that it fell through. However the plane tickets were high and I would have only been able to come home for 3-4 days. So instead I will be back during Golden week. By then I will know what I am gong to do next year. So far it's either stay in Japan or go somewhere else for a bit. I have a few options, however I am being a bit of a sketic on where and what I want to do. I am enjoying teaching, but I think I want to try and pursue something that I am able to use my degree in more. Winter time I am in England for two weeks, I will take lots of pictures and post them on my blog page and on my facebook. If you have added me yet on facebook or looked at my blog page the links will be added to the end of the message. Overall next year will be a time for me to be on planes and trying to figure out if I want to stay or go. After thoughts:Japan is a great place. I'm glad that I came here to teach and to actual live abroad for a bit. I know a lot of people think it was just because Matt was here that I came, but that wasn't it. I mean I wanted to come here long before I met him. Since I was 4 I wanted to travel and get away and explore. He just happened to get done with college first so to some it looks like I followed him, but I didn't. It was at plus since we were dating and all, but in the end we have become two separate people. AI'm a Japanese history major and where else can you experience the actual history of a country better then living there for a bit and seeing it yourself. Yeah, I have had some tough times here, however I pull through. All I know is that I wouldn't change what I did for a minute. Next year I may stay or go to another place. I'm not sure. I know that I am still not planning on coming back home for a few years. So that hasn't changed. ( Sorry everyone, I like America, but I am enjoying the experiences that I have always wanted to experience.) I promise to write more often. Again I have a blog page for anyone who wants to read it. Besides that the only other way to get a hold of me is either phone or mailing me. If you want that information let me know and I will email it to you. I do want everyone to take care of one another and to remember that I am still around. Just a ocean away. However at least it's not a planet right. ( I know bad joke) A;s just email me me and let me know that your still okay. I never get emails from home or even hear from people so that I why I have cut back on the updates. I didn't think anyone was reading them. Alright take it easy and celebrate the summer and all the holidays that you can for me in style. Loves, hugs and cheersTanyisha Grantタニーシャグラント | |

Japan update 7ish | [13 May 2008|10:05pm] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | indifferent ] Sorry that I haven't been keeping up with everyone and writing these as much as I said I would. Life here has picked up speed since the nw year started. The end of the year is always easier then the rest of the year I guess. So far I am back at my same schools teaching. They requested my return since I did such a great job in the two months that I had worked. So far the students are being students. My Jr. High students are a lot more difficult this year since they seem to think that since I was around last year, that they can do what they want to. They seem to enjoy pushing my buttons also. It's a fun game of let's see who can make her tell us to stop doing something we are not suppose to do. To be honest, its mostly boys. Even in Japan the boys seem to be the ones who cause the most grief. Quite the opposite of my Elementary students. They are well angels. They do what I say and actually asks me over and over again when they get to see me next. I heard from a teacher that one student cried because I was on the opposite side that day (one of my elementary and my jr. high are in the same school so they are separated by a door.) and say me. They asked when I was going to be back and was heartbroken to hear that it wouldn't be for another two weeks. They student the came to the door and knocked on it until I noticed, opened it up and they gave me a hug and said they missed me. Its weird working with kids of two different age ranges. They are so well behaved when they are in elementary, but as soon as they get to jr. high they well, are no longer well behaved. I will say that my 1st years in jr. high (7th grade) are not as much of a handful because they were exposed to me at their innocent stage I guess. So they listen and are behaved. I wish the others would follow suit.I got asked to do two interesting things this year already. The first was a interview of two students who wanted to go to New Zealand on an exchange program sponserd by the Board of Education. I had to make sure that they had a good knowledge of English and could hold a conversation for more then 10 minutes with out asking to slow down, repeat, etc. I overall got to just talk to them freely in English for about 45 minutes. IT was great and it was also in a way semi concerning. Well to me it was for the simple fact that here in Japan, Teachers are held a lot higher in respect then parents are. Some students tell you about their problems at home just to get it all out to someone. They never expect you to do anything. It's sad how this society is at times with repressing emotions and feelings, but then again this society runs like a well oiled machine. Another thing I was asked to do is come to work on a Saturday. Why? Well they have sports day, and I get to participate. Since I am the youngest girl in the teachers office I get to do the most enduring runs. I am not looking forward to this, but then again what else can I do. Its either come Saturday, or come Monday and be alone in the office. So I now get to start working out and trying to get fit before the 26th of this month. I think I may just fake an injury. Okay so I won't, but still they have me running, then one thing I am bad at doing. Also the final thing was I was asked to come to an open house at one of my elementary schools next month. They enjoy having us work on our days off. In a way I would whine more about this, but I get paid to come on those days so I'm not going to do much whining. At least this ways the parents can finally met me instead of looking at me like “Who is she and why is she here?”On a more Japan news thins, we have had one to many mini earthquakes to make me feel comfortable. Last week we had two small ones. This resulted in us doing our earthquake/fire drill at my schools. I also have to stock up on earthquake materials and items just in case the worse happens. I don't want to think about this, I mean I knew I was moving towards the most active part of Japan, but I didn't think it was this bad. Speaking of moves I should be finally moving out of my guest house and into my own apartment. Yay!! Not like I don't enjoy the company of other foreigners and people who come to practice their ninja skills and such. However I like my sleep and my privacy and I seem to be lacking in both areas at this time. Also I just want to live in my own space for now.Oh Japan has some weird people, and I do mean weird. I guess last week some guy was running around with a knife near the school. He ducked into a house and police were waiting outside for him to come out. I have no clue if they ever got him or not. However what boggles my mind is how long it took the police to respond and try to capture the guy. Way to long in my opinion. Then again they don't carry guns here, or swords for that matter. Just batons and pepper spray. (No wonder the yakuza have a stronghold in some areas.) I know bad joke, sorry. The weather has been warming up here. At first it was cold, and dry cold. Now that is is Spring going on to Summer I now have dry heat with humidity. All I can say is that summer is going to be a lot of fun. Especially since I may as well kiss any hope of me getting into a pool goodbye unless I find a swimsuit that is the old fashioned 50's style. Tatoos are treated as though you are in a gang, no matter what race you are. Some places are fine, like rivers, beaches, the oceans, etc. Bathhouses, hot springs, etc, uhh not unless it's one of the special ones that are from what I heard Yakuza owned. Plus the idea of me getting into a shared tub with people I don't know still freaks me out a little bit. I get stared at way too much now. I don't need to attract a following.I will be coming home sometime in July if my paycheck and ticket prices permit me to come home at a resonable rate. Especially since college will be out, people will be elsewhere and well I am coming near the middle of July. I have no choice of the days, this is when school is out. Winter time I may go to the UK to visit friends that I made here who are leaving and going back there. Next year I will come back home again sometime. I will keep you all posted on when.On a more personal note that may or may not be relevant to things my boyfriend of 2 and a half years and I split during Golden week. Well the start of my Golden week, and the start of his vacation. Yeah. Its happens, thats all I can say. I'm dusting myself off and moving on. Well not into another relationship right now, but just keeping my mind off of that subject for a long time. Besides I think I scare most Japanese men and well men in general. That is really all I have to share at this point. I will send photos of places I have seen and of me for an updated photo. (I lost a little weight, all I seem to eat now is tofu, fish, rice, some beef and chicken, egg, seaweed and lots of other Japanese staple foods..Yum) And yes my hair got longer, its not mine, I got it braided. The humidity made my hair go afro ultra poof. So I looked and finally found a women who braided it for only the cheap price of 200.00)Iwilltrytoseeasmanypeopleaspossible,butIcan′tguaranteethatIwillseeeveryone.Especiallysincecollegewillbeout,peoplewillbeelsewhereandwellIamcomingnearthemiddleofJuly.Ihavenochoiceofthedays,thisiswhenschoolisout.WintertimeImaygototheUKtovisitfriendsthatImadeherewhoareleavingandgoingbackthere.NextyearIwillcomebackhomeagainsometime.Iwillkeepyouallpostedonwhen.Onamorepersonalnotethatmayormaynotberelevanttothingsmyboyfriendof2andahalfyearsandIsplitduringGoldenweek.WellthestartofmyGoldenweek,andthestartofhisvacation.Yeah.Itshappens,thatsallIcansay.I′mdustingmyselfoffandmovingon.Wellnotintoanotherrelationshiprightnow,butjustkeepingmymindoffofthatsubjectforalongtime.BesidesIthinkIscaremostJapanesemenandwellmeningeneral.ThatisreallyallIhavetoshareatthispoint.IwillsendphotosofplacesIhaveseenandofmeforanupdatedphoto.(Ilostalittleweight,allIseemtoeatnowistofu,fish,rice,somebeefandchicken,egg,seaweedandlotsofotherJapanesestaplefoods..Yum)Andyesmyhairgotlonger,itsnotmine,Igotitbraided.Thehumiditymademyhairgoafroultrapoof.SoIlookedandfinallyfoundawomenwhobraideditforonlythecheappriceof160.00. Life in Japan 3 | [12 Feb 2008|08:30pm] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | hopeful ] So it’s now February here in Japan and its cold. I am now no longer in Nishio city either. Right now I am in my new school an hour from Tokyo waiting for 4:30pm to come around and get on the train to well Tokyo. However before I go with the details of my new life and job, I will explain why I left the old job. So in my last email I think I wrote about how my old job was well; overall not a good place to be. From it being cold all the time in my room regardless of the air conditioner being on the hot setting; and using the kerosene heater. Things just were not working out. In the end I also am now again, fighting off another sinus infection. So I started to look for a better job with a company that would give me an apartment that is my own, not living with other people and having to wait for the restroom, shower, and even not being able to use the bathroom after a certain time in the morning. (Yes things were this bad.) So after trying to reason with my employer’s many times, I decided to well quit. After deciding this I got a message from a friend of mine and one of her friends was looking for a replacement for his position in the next city over. I thought okay let me go check this out and see what it is about before I decided. So I went; met the guy and his employer’s who were the leaders of the cities school relations department. They liked me and hired me and after learning that I would be working for the city and in public schools I wanted the job. Wanted being the key word here; since after I told my current employer’s that I was leaving them decided that they had to go and well make my life miserable. They went to my new job that found me an apartment and had already introduced me to one of the elementary schools, and well complained and showed them my contract saying that I can’t just leave. Even though in the contract it said my date of leaving was negotiable and it also said noting about quitting and that I had to stay for the whole year. During this time I was being harassed on a daily basis by both of my employer’s, (they were a married couple and the school was in their home) and of course they also were telling me everything they were doing to try and make it so that I couldn’t leave them. They even said that “You can stay here and work for free, you just have to apologize to us and we can figure out how you can pay rent and meals since we would not be paying you for your services.” So in the end they won, they lost me my new job, my apartment, and well my dream. However this was only for a few days. I was still going to move no matter what. Sunday came and I moved into s friend’s place, however on Friday I got a call from a company that works with the public schools and the board of education in those cities. They wanted me to come for an interview in Saitama for a position. So I left Monday morning at 5:45am, got on a train to Nagoya, then the Shinkansen to Tokyo and after a total of 5hours, arrived in Saitama. I went to the office and after filling out paperwork and talking to both the owner and my future boss; they told me that they would give me a contract. However I had to pass the interview with the BOE before they could do that. So I went with my coordinator to Saitama city hall and met the BOE. They liked me and offered me a job here in Saitama city. I would be working in two elementary schools and jr. high school. Being that I needed a job and this was exactly like the one that I had already gotten I accepted. I started the next day. So I found a place to stay and am waiting. My company wants to put me in a more permanent place since I am helping them finish an original contract that a woman who had to leave because of cancer couldn’t finish. So for now I am here for the next few months and well I will then be moving to Fujioka, Gunma to my new apartment that is a two bedroom and teaching in their public schools for the next few years. So far things here are great. The kids are a lot of fun and the staff is very friendly and energetic. Right now it is snowing outside and the hallways are cold, however the office is nice and warm and everyone is just waiting to go home. I do have to practice my Japanese more and work on not being so scared to use what I know. Its weird being in a new place, however it is also very comfortable here. Right now I am hoping that things go well. The place I am t is a guest house for foreigners who rents to us daily to monthly. The woman there, Tin tin, is great. She has helped me a lot and I have made many new friends. A lot of them are teachers for other companies and we talk about work, ideas and back home. On Friday I have a interview at the school that will be broadcast on the school televisions during lunch time so that all the students are able to know who I am. Its funny when I walk down the hallways and student poke their heads out from the classes or the windows to get a look at me. I still miss home, even though I do not call a lot and email as often as I please. However I now do have internet access and can talk online. I will get everyone a stable address as soon as I move in a few months. For no, just know that I am safe okay. I will try to come home in Late March, early April; however it may not be possible since right now money is well tight; so instead I may come back during my month off in the summer so that I can spend more time with people. Overall instead of one crazy week, you get to have me for two. Well I hope to hear from all of you eventually and I am going to find a good site for a blog and the send that address instead of a long email. Well take care and I hope that the weather is nice and that everything is going well for everyone.Miss you all and hugs. Tanyisha | |

Japan update 2 | [18 Jan 2008|12:37am] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | bouncy ] So here is an update of things from well two months of no updates. Sorry about that, been quiet an interesting month/new year. Okay so last time I wrote and update was November. Since then many interesting things have happened. I realized that my employers well really are not that caring about their employees. Especially when it comes to them being ill and still made to work. However from this to well me living in a semi shack I figured that this has to be the reason the three other teachers before me left in a period of three months. So since that time has passed I am a still trying to get over the lovely case of sinusitis that I caught. However what seems to get me the most is how they can say that I do not know what I am talking about when I am teaching a class and it is right out from the books that they have me use. It makes me wonder at times if they really want a teacher there or if they just have a grudge against all foreigners and keep them employed more or less as their well verbal punching bags. Anyways currently looking for a new job, may have found one that is for a school district and will be moving maybe at the end of the month. Yes things are that bad, let’s just say not hot water to wash things and well taking a shower and moving to the cold outside are not my idea of well fun. Anyways let’s get back to what matters here, what else has been going on in my life in Japan. So in December I went back to Ishigaki to well see Matt, get some sun that I miss being here, and also see friends that I missed from down there. I actually met the mayor of Ishigaki, quit informally at the ice carving festival that they have down there. He seems to be a nice guy, and from what I hear a very good mayor. He has been the mayor for 16years. So I celebrated Christmas and my birthday down on the island. It was a very nice relaxing week. However I did have to go to the hospital about what I thought was a cold, but instead was sinusitis. I will say that Japanese hospital may be confusing, but they are very efficient and as soon as you are in the right area, things go swiftly. After being down in Ishigaki for a week, Matt and I came back up to Nishio for two day and two night total. He met my friends here, we hung out, went to an Izakaya where he was compared to the likeness of Tiger Woods, and well of course did karaoke. So after this time of meeting people quickly, we got on a Shinkansen and went to Tokyo. It was a great ride and man those trains are fast. When we arrived at where we would be staying the next few days; we dropped off our things, and immediately were met by our friends who are in a progressive metal band in Japan names Gonin-nish. We went to Ueno, and some other places close by since the trains didn’t run to late that evening. The next day was New Year’s Eve and we went with a few of my friends who were also in Tokyo for the holidays to of course Asakusa. We stayed in Asakusabashi, one stop away from Asakusa. So we got to see the temple in all of it’s before the crowds’ glory and prayed. I actually for the first time got to witness monks praying at a temple. After this we went to Shibuya and met up with the rest of our friends from Western, Breana, Kayla, Kianna, and a few others from America who were friends of my friend. So after getting together the hunt started on where to spend the coming New Year, America style. So after walking around Shibuya for three hours and splitting into two groups, we finally found a place 10 minutes before midnight. So we get into the bar area and at first I was thinking, uh no way, this looks kind of well not like the kind of place you would do a New year’s thing. However we were seated given menus and served our drinks and a small glass of champaign right before the bell rang for the New Year. Very nice, and we even got to have a tastes of sake from a barrel that they opened and offered us. The 1st Matt and I went to Asakusa again, and let’s just say that I would not wait three hours in line to well meet the famous movie star I always wanted to meet, however people were lined up to the street corner to go inside of the temple. I was amazed and yet quite befuddled. However, while there we ran into two of our old AUAP students/friends. After this we went to Tokyo Tower and got to see the nice night view of Tokyo. On the 2nd we went to the Ueno zoo and I got to see all of the animals. Besides that fact that they all looked cold and very upset to be stared at while being cold it was a great time. After this we hung out with my friend David and his buddy Craig. We went to a restaurant with another former AUAP student, Tasuhiro. We also got a chance to see Sugaru also. On the 3rd our last and final full day, we went to Odaiba. This was our let’s have fun day. We met up with Tasuhiro, Brandon, and Kianna again and walked around on the Odaiba board walk. I got to see Japan’s miniature stature of liberty, and lots of dogs in well human clothing. Later we ended up going to a Sega amusement park called Joy-o-polis. It was okay, but not really worth the 2,500 yen per person. However I will say that at one point I though I was going to die from shock thanks to well Kianna, Brandon, and Tasuhiro scaring me half to death after I was already freaking out because Matt wanted to go to into a walk through haunted house. Okay yes, for all it is worth I do get scared by some thins okay. No exception to the Japanese scary characters we all love like the girl from the Ring coming behind you chasing after you and disappearing and reappearing in front of you. Yeah, so after I’m trying to get out as fast as possible they jump out and scare me, I end up having a slight panic attack, and scaring all the other poor Japanese people in line. I will say that right now that is my best achievement, scaring a line of about 15 Japanese people waiting to go into a haunted house. However, to add to this before we went in there a couple of the people before us; both guys and girls were coming out in tears and also screaming. After this though the guys won me Stitch dolls to make it up to me and I calmed down a bit. Matt and I rode on the ferries wheel and ten went back to our hotel, slept, and then parted ways at the Tokyo train station. Now I am back in Nishio, looking for a new job, a new place to well fit in. I will admit being here is hard and I do miss everyone a lot. At times I want to just say “forget it” and come back home, however if I do that then well I would be giving up my dream. So I am staying and going to make the best of this. Besides I wanted to come here to see the real Japan, and experience the well real world, next time though if I say that I am planning on moving so many thousands of miles away, remind me of how much money, time and other things that it took. However never let me forget the good times okay. I miss everyone a lot and I will keep you posted and update more regularly as soon as I get internet in my own place wherever that may be. Take care and you are always in my heart and in my mind.Love always, and sincerely best wishes and regards,Tanyishaタニシヤ谷井謝 | |

[ **mood** | contemplative ] Japan life so far,So this is a real update on my travels so far in Japan.October 18th, I arrived in Okinawa Japan. After being at the airport in Taiwan for two hours after my 13 hour flight, I had made it. So far my trip here had been okay. I ended up getting seated next to an old guy who was coming from America to visit his family in the Philippines. He was a huge help since for most of the flight the stewardess tended to ignore me. However I was happy just to make it to Okinawa. Okinawa was very hot, but it was also very beautiful. Passing over the ocean to get there was amazing. The waters were so blue and crystal clear. However my trip on airplanes was not over yet, and I boarded my last plane to go to my final destination, Ishigaki. On the plane to Ishigaki I ended up getting to sit by the window. I then finally realized that I was now officially off to the beginning of my new life. To be honest I was scared, I had started to miss my friends and family when I had gotten on the first plane, an as I looked out that window I had begun to think of all the fun memories, all the hard times, and all of the people who I was going to miss dearly. The flight to Ishigaki was only 50 minutes. The plane finally touched down at its final destination, and mine for the time being. When I first stepped off the plane I was greeted by a gust of warm air. I had no clue that it was going to be that hot, however I was glad that I had brought my summer clothes with me. After the plane landed and I got off I went directly to get the rest of my luggage. It was interesting; I honestly did not have to do much. The people down in the Yaeyma prefecture are really helpful. Some random girls saw my carry on and went and got the rest of my luggage for me. I really did not notice since I was jet lagged and tired. I was in shock when they brought it over to me. I said that you very much about three times and in turn helped them with their luggage. As I exited the luggage area I found Matt waiting for me. I cried for a bit because it was good to see friendly face. We left the airport and went to the hotel that we stayed at for two days. In those two days I met some of his friends and I quickly clicked with all of them. We went out to bars, restaurants for the first few days. After the first few days matt and I went to stay at his house. It was this amazing old style Japanese traditional log cabin house. His landlord’s house is just beside it, and it was also nice, a much larger version of Matt’s house. After we got settled in there the next few days were filled with traveling around Ishigaki, to going to other islands. I went to Taketomi and saw a festival for the harvest called “Tanedori-sai”, it was a amazing festival and I took a lot of pictures. I am going to included only a few of them though. We then on my last weekend went to Iriomote Is. This is where the famed Yama-neko live, or wild cats. We went with Suzy and John, two other people in the Jet program, Suzy’s two friends Amy and Peterri (who was visiting from Finland), and Veronica, and another Jet program participant. We all canoed and explored various beaches; we actually may have seen a Yama-neko flee as we approached a beach. The beaches in this Island are known for their star sand. I guess a creature that lives in the sea when it dies its shell floats to the shore. The shell happens to be star shaped. We got to see a amazing waterfall and go hike up to it also during our canoe trip. After we came back to Ishigaki it was people going back to work and me getting ready to depart. I left Ishigaki on the 3rd of November. It was a hard thing to do since I had gotten use to being there and had made friends. However it was not where I was working so I sadly said my goodbyes and got onto the plane. I landed in Nagoya at 8:30 in the evening. I got my luggage and went to find Mr. Hayashi. After meeting up with him I was on my way to my new home for a year. So far I have taught two weeks worth of classes. I am teaching mostly adults with two lesson being kids of jr. high age, and a set of twins who are in the 3rd grade here. Most of the people I teach are friendly; however I think that they are more frightened of me still. It was hard being here the first few days, the woman who got me the job here introduced me to some people, however I have mostly been at home watching television and sleeping. I am also taking a Japanese class here, it is on Sundays. Oddly enough though, the next main population of Nishio is Brazilian. The reason is because Nishio is not far from Toyota city, where the Toyota car factories is, and are working. So Spanish and Portuguese are just as popular as English is here. However besides that it is a nice quiet sleepy town. Not much to do, but nice to be here and work. It is starting to get cold here, and soon it may snow. However I am doing well overall. Things can only get better form here and with the support talks that I get from Matt and the emails and messages that I receive from home are keeping me going. I got Skype, which is a phone service for computers so that I can call people now, if you add it’s free service I can call you for no charge at your computer I guess. I also have a cell phone here, but it is expensive to call so I am going to try and find a calling card that works for me to also call home. I miss everyone a lot and I do hope that all is well with you. I hope to hear form all of you soon either by snail mail or email okay. I know that I can make it through this and I do thank everyone for their support so far. I am going to end this update here on that note, if anyone wants to mail me anything email me and I will give you my address okay. Miss you all and much loveSincerely Tanyisha | |
