I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but hey, it's worth a shot right? Maybe? Anyways, I'm currently in my last term of film school in Vancouver, BC and we are to produce, direct, and edit our own 10 minute movie. I'm interested on doing a documentary on the relation between violence in media and youth violence vs. a child's upbringing/nurture and youth violence. It is rather large subject for only 10 minutes, so I was wondering if you had any suggestions? tips? What would you focus on? Etc.

"Everyone knows Al Gore stars in the global warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." But who created "Al Gore's Penguin Army," a two-minute video now playing on YouTube.com?

In the video, Mr. Gore appears as a sinister figure who brainwashes penguins and bores movie audiences by blaming the Mideast crisis and starlet Lindsay Lohan's shrinking waist size on global warming. Like other videos on the popular YouTube site, it has a home-made, humorous quality. The video's maker is listed as "Toutsmith," a 29-year-old who identifies himself as being from Beverly Hills in an Internet profile.

In an email exchange with The Wall Street Journal, Toutsmith didn't answer when asked who he was or why he made the video, which has just over 59,000 views on YouTube. However, computer routing information contained in an email sent from Toutsmith's Yahoo account indicate it didn't come from an amateur working out of his basement.

Instead, the email originated from a computer registered to DCI Group, a Washington, D.C., public relations and lobbying firm whose clients include oil company Exxon Mobil Corp.

Anyhow, I just wanted to remind you all that even though I neglect this community from time to time doesn't mean you all have to. Feel free to post whatever is on your mind, provided it relates to media on some level. I haven't been following this story closely, but maybe some of you had. Apparently there is unrest in France right now and I am curious to know if we are getting a balanced account of what is going on. So yeah...if anyone has been reading about this, let's discuss...

My question whether or not the mainstream media recalls that Bush already declared major combat was done over two years ago. I'd be curious to find if their are other mainstream media outlets covering the same story.

freon_radio @ 12:41am: Freon Radio a while back a few friends and i had the idea of creating a low-power FM radio station. as we become more interested in the possibility, we have created a blog to help us reach out to our small town of 4000 people. while we have general tech knowledge, and the capacity to easily learn more, we lack any knowledge on the subject of LPFM broadcasts.

are hopes are that the station will play a lot of music, but will also allow us to express our political views, and any information on the subject we want to spread to our town.

im posting this in a couple of communites with topics at least similar to ours, in the hope that at least a few of you weill be able to help. while we would prefer an email (freon_radio@yahoo.com) we would love any sort of advice those more knowledgeable on this subject would like to provide. we need information on finances (of which we have very little) and on possible problems we may encounter.

we only need to reach a small area, maybe 4 miles in every direction, but we need the signal to be relatively clear so that we can play music on it and make it sound at least decent.

once again any information you can provide will be valuable and greatly appreaciated. i sincerely appologize if this post breaks the rules of any of the communities i hope to post this in, and if it does a polite reminder will be just fine.

I found you in my search to abolish addictive media from my life and only use the TV and radio for Public Broadcasting stations and community access stations, and though I use a computer for communication, I find I waste too much time on it and am looking for resources to just not waste time on anything period, not overwork, overstudy, over...anything! I'll be happy in the future to voice my opinion on anything expressed here as I enjoy being opinionated and individual.

A House panel has voted to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS, starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow," and other commercial-free children's shows. If approved, this would be the most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch.

The cuts would slash 25% of the federal funding this year—$100 million—and end funding altogether within two years. The loss could kill beloved children's shows like "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Arthur," and "Postcards from Buster." Rural stations and those serving low-income communities might not survive. Other stations would have to increase corporate sponsorships.

MORE THE POINT, THIS MOVE WOULD REMOVE NPR NEWS DEPARTMENT, ONE OF THE LAST NON-CORPORATE NON-BIASED SOURCES OF NEWS IN THE US.

The next vote on the cuts will take place tomorrow (Thursday). Help MoveOn reach 400,000 signatures to be delivered to the committee members.

rem21 @ 8:44pm: As expected, the coverage of the pope has dominated headlines. But another "small" story has been getting some attention as well. You all have probably heard about Elisa Hernandez getting shot because she refused to kiss some guy. The coverage, though, seems to blame the victim as much as the killer. I don't know, what do you all think? Here is CNN's story...

It's not that Sam Kimery objects to the views expressed on Fox News. The creator of the "Fox Blocker" contends the channel is not news at all. Kimery figures he's sold about 100 of the little silver bits of metal that screw into the back of most televisions, allowing people to filter Fox News from their sets, since its August debut.
