fst - Profile (original) (raw)
Welcome to the Fan Soundtrack Project.
The basic premise of this community is for fans to draw up a track listing/create based on themes/challenges issued and post the listing along with mp3 files to the comm. In other words... Fan Soundtracks. ^^;
RULES
1 ) The community is
members-locked
so you will have to join it to view entries and post. You cannot see entries if you only add the comm to your flist.
2 ) All posts must be friends-locked.
3 ) fst is a themed community. All FSTs posted must be based on the theme of the month. Off-topic mixes/FSTs are not allowed.
The mods will issue a theme/challenge, usually in the last week of the preceding month. Once the first day of the ensuing month comes around, people can then start posting their new FSTs to the community. The cycle repeats itself on the last week of that month, and so on.
4 ) The last day for posting FSTs on a particular month is always the last day of that month. There will be no extensions. Late FSTs will be deleted (even those posted just seconds after midnight).
5 ) Subject headers must be formatted as such:
[Medium i.e. manga/TV/movie] [Source Title e.g. Heroes, Prince of Tennis] [title of FST is optional]
e.g. [Book] [The Lord of the Rings] Siblings: An Eomer and Eowyn FST
6 ) All music posted must be in MP3 format. No WMAs, no M4as or any other file formats; we want to ensure members can listen to the music they've downloaded. Members who find that the music is not of the appropriate format are to inform the mods.
7 ) No direct-linking of MP3s posted in the community. If you wish to redistribute a file to share with your friends, download it and host it on your own server or send it through a file-sharing program. Violators will be permanently banned.
8 ) CD cover art is optional but please place all images under the LJ-cut.
9 ) Please comment once you download an FST or parts thereof. We recognize that this is not strictly enforceable, but the feedback would certainly be appreciated.
In addition, please try to observe - if there are any - preferences/particulars regarding commenting as noted by the person who made the mix in question. Some members would like people to comment only if they have anything specific to say with regard to the FST as a whole. Others would like comments once you download from an FST regardless of whether you take the entire mix or only a couple of songs. It varies.
10 ) Please do not post requests for mp3s in a separate entry. You can do that within an existing discussion thread, but not as an independent post. Such entries will be deleted immediately. There are many communities e.g. teh_music or sharemusic where you can request music files. There's also WinMx. Or: JUST BUY IT.
Of Interest
a ) There are no hard and fast rules to making an FST, especially once you start making distinctions between a mix and a fan soundtrack (there is a difference, I think). darcenciel posted an entry about making FSTs with input from other members. Go ahead and post your own reply, if you feel like it. Also: the whys and wherefores of fan soundtracks, a preliminary approach to. Kind of.
b ) Track lists are usually CD-length, around 15-20 songs, 80 mins at the most. That would take up around 70-100 MB of free space if the files are in mp3 format. However, you are the ultimate arbiter of how long or short you want your FST to be. Some members post EPs, others 50-song playlists. You may also choose to post your FST as a big zip file. It's your call.
You can post your track list on a separate web page and just share the link thereto to the community. It's been done before.
