On September 11, 2012, the president of the Republic of Peru Ollanta Humala adopted the Higher Ed... more On September 11, 2012, the president of the Republic of Peru Ollanta Humala adopted the Higher Education Act 22914 in parliament. Article 7 of this act, stated that public universities have to pay rehabilitated staff from their own budgets. This provision had upset the staff and students of the southern universities in Peru - the UNA (Puno), UNJBG (Tacna), UNSA (Arequipa), and UNAA (Cuzco) - because its implementation meant an additional financial burden for the students, who couldn't afford higher costs and will have to drop out of education.

The film follows the protests of the students and staff of the Altiplano National University (UNA) in Puno against the disputed act and the privatization of public education in south of Peru.

Marija, its owner, is the last umbrella-maker in Ljubljana and the only one in Slovenia, who still makes, repairs and sells umbrellas. I was researching how does her every day look like and why this craft vanishes so quickly?

As anthropologist you often face personal, intimate barriers. For Marija her workshop was such an intimate place. When I first visited her, she strongly refused making a documentary. After visiting her for a month, talking with her about her family and work and explaining I am doing it for my research she slowly melted down and this heartwarming documentary was conceived. I am grateful to her, for letting me present her craft to wider audience than just visitors of the shop.

Praznovanje vaške zaščitnice device Kočarkanske (Fiesta de mamacha cocharcas) v sapallangi v Perú... more Praznovanje vaške zaščitnice device Kočarkanske (Fiesta de mamacha cocharcas) v sapallangi v Perúju je najpomembnejši praznik koledarskega leta. Kraj se med vsakoletnim praznovanjem malega šmarna transformira v romarski kraj, ki ga v petih dneh obišče več kot deset tisoč romarjev in turistov. romanje k devici Kočarkanski izvira iz leta 1965, ko so pripravili prvo procesijo iz prestolnice regije Huancayo v Sapallango. Po imenovanju device za zaščitnico regije leta 2000 je njena priljubljenost skokovito narasla in število obiskovalcev se od takrat vsako leto veča. Praznovanje osmišljajo različni ritualni dogodki na trgu pred vaško cerkvijo. najpomembnejši je predstavitev folklornih plesov (danzas folkloricas) med praznovanjem, drugi je zažig bambusnih ognjemetov (Quema de los castillones) na predvečer praznovanja (víspera), tretji pa obredna popivanja (cañay-quintu), ki se med praznovanjem izvedejo pri svetniških varuhih (Priostes) in na trgu pred cerkvijo.

Cilj prispevka je z najpomembnejšimi ritualnimi dogodki predstaviti posledice popularizacije in komercializacije praznovanja leta 2012 na življenje vaščanov pred in med praznovanjem ter po njem. aktivna udeležba pri pripravi in izvedbi praznovanja (z nalogami skupnosti) povezuje vaščane v skupnost ter spreminja njihove statuse in družbeni položaj. Pri tem sta sporni vse večja socialna stratifikacija regije in pluralizacija ekonomsko sposobnejših udeležencev zunaj skupnosti, ki sodelujejo pri organizaciji praznovanja. Avtor v prispevku s fotografijami in z videomaterialom na primeru internacionalnih pivovarskih korporacij, ki so si izborile »nadzor« nad oskrbo praznovanja z alkoholom, opozarja tudi na učinke vse večje globalizacije. obredna popivanja vse bolj nadomeščajo kontinuirana pijančevanja, ki degradirajo namen praznovanja. V zaključku prispevka skuša avtor ugotoviti, kje so ob praznovanju device Kočarkanske vidne posledice spreminjajoče se skupnosti sapallange na prehodu iz tradicije v sodobnost.

Praznovanje vaske zascitnice Device Kocarkanske v Sapallangi predstavlja najpomembnejse dneve kol... more Praznovanje vaske zascitnice Device Kocarkanske v Sapallangi predstavlja najpomembnejse dneve koledarskega leta v vasi in se je iz Bolivije preko trgovskih poti preneslo v Peru. Nadomestilo je predkolonialno spomladansko praznovanje boginje plodnosti Coya Raymi. Prebivalci vasi z razlicnimi zadolzitvami med praznovanjem skrbijo za ohranjanje in obnavljanje vzajemnosti med Devico in skupnostjo. To dosezejo z udelezbo pri organizaciji
in izvedbi praznovanja: kot zascitniki podobe, pokrovitelji plesnih skupin, plesalci folklornih plesov in druge nacine. Uspesno sodelovanje pri praznovanju krepi vezi med posamezniki in skupnostjo, ustvarja in potrjuje njihove dru`bene statuse in etnicno identiteto. Pri tem je nujno potrebna distribucija bogastva in obilja, ki se najbolj vidno manifestira skozi folklorne plese. Ta nacin darovanja in cescenja Device Marije omogoci nov cikel akumuliranja materialnega bogastva, ustvarja obcutek vzajemnosti in povezanosti ter ohranja in obnavlja kolektivni spomin skupnosti.

The feast of the Virgin of Cocharcas, patron saint of Sapallanga, is one of the most important days of the calendar year in the village and spread from Bolivia to Peru by way of trade routes. It replaced the pre-Hispanic spring festival of the fertility goddess Coya Raymi. The inhabitants of the village perform a variety of tasks during the feast to preserve and reaffirm the reciprocity between the Virgin and the community. They achieve this by participating in the organisation and execution of the feast: as officials responsible for the image, sponsors of the dance groups, performers of folklore dances and in other ways. Successful collaboration in the feast strengthens the ties between the individuals and the community, establishes and confirms their social status and ethnic identity. This requires riches and affluence to be distributed as is manifested through the folklore dances. This way of sacrificing to and worshipping Our Lady enables a new cycle of accumulating material wealth, creates a feeling of reciprocity and preserves and reaffirms the community’s collective memory.
