Hi! I'm writing to let you know about a little anti-war performance I didwith my family over Thanksgiving weekend. I heard about this lady on theradio doing it (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5021524)and we copied it.We took toy soldiers and put a label on them that says "bring me home fromIraq for the holidays" and we placed them all over stores -- in Best Buy andthe supermarket - and then customers or employees find them on top ofgranola bars or iPods, etc.The idea is to confront consumers for a brief moment -- to ask them to thinkabout Bush's approach (failure!) and what they're going to do about it. Italso offers an encouragement to other activists, citizens of conscience, andmilitary families, in that someone is doing something to bring soldiershome!So, it's extremely easy (and relatively cheap) to do! Look for toy soldiersat your local dollar, toy, or department store, glue them on to some paper,and write/print "Bring Me Home from Iraq for the Holidays," then walk aroundstores and leave them (in)conspicuously on shelves!We're psyched, we wanna get it in blogs and news media and work a snowballeffect and have this protest-performance-action sweep the nation, and be thenext Cindy Sheehan anti-war strategy.I've started a blog to keep track of where these are popping up. I already linked to this, but I have more to say now: As part of President Bush's "faith-based initiative," US taxpayers gave the Salvation Army's children services division 47millionthisyear−−9547 million this year -- 95% of its total budget. Several Salvation Army employees refused to take the Salvation Army's pledge "proclaiming Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord," reveal which church they belong to or identify gay co-workers -- and were summarily fired.Let's parse this event out. The money came from American taxpayers, many of whom are not Christians. Nevertheless the workers were fired for refusing to pledge allegiance to the Christian prophet. They were also fired for failing to disclose their own religious affiliations, if any. And finally, they were fired for refusing to rat out their co-workers.Sounds like something that would happen in Communist China, doesn't it? And, if it had happened in China, and it was Christians getting fired, you can bet your sweet bippy the Bush administration and America's Christian right would be screaming bloody murder about it.But not this time. They even found a judge to back them on it. (continued at link.) Seriously. Between this, 47millionthisyear−−95300 toilet seats and private friends of the administration making a killing off the illegal Iraq war it seems the most effective thing I can do on an individual level to protest this kind of shit is simply to stop paying my taxes. An article was out not long ago, which I can no longer find, that proposed a nationwide movement of people doing this as means to protest the war. The relevence of this is obvious. The people doing the abusing just go out of town when mass movments go to the capital. They ignore the experts, "don't read the polls" and close their ears and turn their backs as we protest and sit on our thumbs getting angier and angrier. And the only reason they are able to do this and yet continue to hijack our country for their personal gain is because no matter what we might say, or how outraged we get, the tax dollars just continue to roll in. It is officially my opinion that everyone that opposes the blatant abuse of their tax dollars in this manner, should simply stop paying their taxes.

Matt Blunt, who is Missour's governor, has put all these stupid rules up about family planning, making it almost impossible for it to even go on. His silly laws would have sex educators in public schools either promoting abstinence, or not talking about sex at all, which I think is absolutely appalling. Also, pharmacists are beginning to take people's doctor's prescription for the "morning-after" pill and not giving the prescription back so the person can at least go to another pharmacist.Go Family Planning!

The most recent one being Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane was not his fault, but the way he handled it sure as fuck was!Random: I am pro-choice and am trying to get family planning fully legalized in my state, which is Missouri.
