The economic impact has affected Nigerians, as they complained of untold hardship, hunger and strife, increase in crime rate, violence, rape, robbery, and kidnapping among others and this has motivated this study. Despite various support from government and nongovernmental funding organisations, Nigeria still witnesses low economic growth. The study, therefore, investigates the effect of Covid-19 on Nigeria's economy and seeks to determine how theatre facilitates and provides socioeconomic support in Nigeria using 'Theatrepowerment'. The study adopts a qualitative research method through interviews and observation by participation, to assess the effect of Covid-19 on Nigeria's economy. The study finds out that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial impact on the economy of Nigeria which has resulted in considerable disruptions in supply chains, the loss of jobs, and a reduction in income, among others. The study among other things advocates 'Theatrepowerment', for socioeconomic change in contemporary theatre practice.

Because of its festive, communal, realistic and concrete nature, it is almost impossible to avoid if you have a message to transmit to local communitieswhether rural or urban. When we talk about theatre in the development context, we are obviously not talking about classical theatre, but rather about popular forms of theatre also known as street theatre, intervention theatre, or theatre for development. The most popular forms of theatre for development are forum theatre, interactive theatre, and the theatre debateall of which use similar techniques. One of the distinguishing characteristics of popular theatre is its social content. The troupes of actors are often local or regional. The villagers do not have to travel to see the performances, as the troupes come to the villages to perform. Within development, there is an increasing recognition of the need to hear the opinion of the people who are most affected by development. One response to this is 'Theatre for Development', which is a technique of performance and drama-building. It rests on an interaction between people who are in the flight path of development projects and those agencies who initiate them. This paper will examine theatre as a powerful tool of communication which enables people to contribute in the development of their society and thereby get involved in the search for solutions.

Apart from shortening the distance between all parts of the world, technology and the new media has also succeeded in making the world a global village. Hence, it's now easy to relay live audio and visual signals across the length and breadth of the world in real time. People now contract and execute businesses across countries, conferences are held and ideas are shared with a simple push of a computer button. Likewise, political leaders and diplomats are now just a click away from reaching those important decisions that take their countries' fortunes to the next level. On the flip side, ICT and the New Media have also contributed in no small measure, in aiding global terrorism and general insecurity around the world. More interesting is the fact that as developing economies, African countries have massively embraced the information technology and this has helped them in keeping up with the trends in the polity of other model democracies around the world. This paper therefore examines how much effect ICT and the New Media have exerted on the economic, social and political lives of African nations with Nigeria as a case in point for the purpose of this study. It demonstrates the positive and negative influences the new media is having on the social, economic and political lives of African nations ICT…on Africa

A multitude of factors can help explain these tragedies, including ethnic, religious and political differences. Some schools of thoughts have attributed the ever present conflicts in Nigeria to the British Colonial policy that saw the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates in 1914. According to them, the British lumped together people of radically different culture, language and religion for their own economic and political benefit. Worst still, the British hoisted a political system that pitched the North against the South even in terms of religious, political and cultural orientation. These were the genesis of the unhealthy ethnic politics and mutual distrust among various cultural, religious, linguistic and ethnic groups in Nigeria and the main causes of Nigeria's ethnic, religious and communal conflicts. Of interest however, is the fact that the Nigerian diversity can be put to good use in fostering a peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic, religious and political divides. No one seems ready to explore the chances of harnessing the Nigerian diversity to the country's advantage; instead, a lot of researches and papers have been written to lament the causes and effect of the Nigerian national conflict. People are quick to trace the conflict in Nigeria to the country's diversity, but without a clue as to what needs to be done to reverse the ugly trend. This paper therefore sets to underscore the serious implications of these conflicts on the Nigerian nationhood and suggest how ethnic, political, socio-cultural and religious activities should be organized to reduce the incidence of violence in Nigeria.

Having shared a common history of colonization and its attendant challenges, Nigeria is placed similar amongst other African and most nations of the world that shared similar history that are still struggling to holistically improve in its level of efficiency. But a closer juxtaposition of Nigeria and most countries that have enjoyed about five decades of independence clearly brings to the fore obvious malaise characterizing this multi-culturally rich black giant of Africa. This raises the question of what does Nigeria either do or ignore that other countries have since perfected thereby overtaking her in terms of global rating of development. The obvious answer lies in leadership style. The political leadership of Nigeria, though striving to attain improved efficiency, for so long has been adversely faced by the obvious challenge of transparent and peaceful transition from one tenure or regime to the other. This paper will analyze the existence of electoral process and regulatory electoral body in Nigeria with the view of, not just empowering the electoral body but the electorate in terms of knowledgevia theatrical endeavours, with the sole aim of achieving a violent-free political transition; through the process of politics of entertainment that will ensure freedom and growth in Nigeria.
