However, parameter tuning, and inaccurate model representation often lead to unsatisfactory closed loop performance. In this study, we analyse the effect of PID controllers and IMCs tuned with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Fuzzy Logic (FL), on a poultry feeding system. The use of GA and FL for tuning of the PID and IMC parameters was done to enhance the adaptability and optimality of the controller. A comparative analysis was made to analyse closed loop performance and ascertain the most effective controller. The results showed that the GA-PID and FL-PID gave a better performance in the aspect of rise time, settling time and Integrated Absolute Error (IAE). On the other hand, the GA-IMC and FL-IMC gave better performances in the aspect of the performance overshoot. Therefore, for processes in which a faster response and lower IAE are desired, the GA-PID and FL-PID are more effective while for processes in which the major objective is to minimise the overshoot, the GA-IMC and FL-IMC are more suitable.

DM has high socioeconomic costs because it needs long term monitoring and individual care to prevent or decrease complications. Uncontrolled or poorly controlled diabetes lead to evolution or development of microvascular and macrovascular complications. It has been shown that adequate or even tight glycaemic control can prevent or delay complications and finally can reduce these complications. One of this glycaemic control is insulin therapy, meanwhile, non-adherence to the therapy due to its sever pain is prevalent among patients. In this paper, a review of research efforts towards the development of automatic insulin injection from control engineering perspective is presented. The reviewed techniques are basically closed loop approach, which include PI...

The amount of dissolved oxygen (DO) alongside other parameters such as temperature, pH, alkalinity and conductivity are often used to estimate the water quality index (WQI) in aquaculture. There exist different approaches for the estimation of the quality index of the water in the aquatic environment. One of such approaches is the use of the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), however, its efficacy lies in the ability to select and use optimal parameters for the network. In this work, different WQI estimation models have been developed using the ANN. These models have been developed by varying the activation function in the hidden layer of the ANN. The performance of the ANN-based estimation models was compared with that of the multilinear regression (MLR) based model. The performance comparison depicts the ANN model case 3 with a tangent activat...

This voting scheme is insecure due to the attributed shortcomings including ballot stuffing, ballot snatching and voter's impersonation. In this paper, we present the design and development of secure e-voting to ensure a free, fair and credible election where the preference of electorate counts. This proposed system solves the authentication, integrity and confidentiality security issues of e-voting in kiosk and poll site evoting scenarios using unimodal fingerprint biometrics and Advanced Encryption Standard based Wavelet based Crypto-watermarking Approach. The developed system solves: The possibility of blundering voter's authentication, integrity and confidentiality of vote stored in the server. The results after qualitative evaluation of the system with anti-watermarking detectors revealed that the developed secure e-voting system could serve as a platform for the delivery of credible e-election in developing countries with significant digital divides.

This in turn gives a low return on investment, low yield and low profit. These shortcomings of the manual pattern of feeding are as a result of contamination of the poultry feed, wastage of the feed, fatigue and stress involved with monitoring of the birds and administration of the feed. This study describes the development of a mobile intelligent poultry feed dispensing system using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) tuned Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control technique. The system is capable of moving in a structured environment within a deep litter poultry farm and dispenses solid and liquid feed to poultry birds. The performance of the system was evaluated in terms of the system response using the Overshoot, Rise time and settling time as parameters. The result after successful testing and performance evaluation of the system showed that the system can be used by farmers to easily administer both solid and liquid feed to poultry birds with a high return on investment, high yield and profit. The developed mechatronic system can be adopted by farmers to reduce high level of human involvement in poultry feeding.

This pattern of feeding which is predominant in the tropics gives a low return on investment, low yield and low profit. These shortcomings are as a result of contamination of the poultry feed, wastage of the feed, fatigue and stress involved with monitoring of the birds and administration of the feed. Hence, there is a need for a system which is capable of addressing these limitations. This study proposes the design of a mobile intelligent poultry feed dispensing system using Particle Swarm Optimized PID control technique. The system will be capable of moving from one point to another within a deep litter poultry house, as well as dispense both solid and liquid feed to poultry birds at specific time intervals. The system shall be intelligent with a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller tuned with the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm in order to increase the performance of the system. The successful development of the anticipated intelligent poultry feeding system is expected to reduce human intervention, increase yield and profit as well as provides high return on investment in poultry farming.

Electronic ballot spoofing, remote voter’s masquerading, voter’s coercibility and ballot integrity breach are some of the security issues in electronic voting system. In this paper, we proffer solution to the problem of authentication and verification of voters as well as the integrity and confidentiality of the casted electronic ballot. The developed e-voting system adopts two levels of security: authentication of voters for whom they are using Radio Frequency Identification Technique and protection of casted votes in transit using enhanced Least Significant Audio Steganographic for credible electronic decision making. The results obtained from the testing and qualitative evaluation using both human psychoacoustic and histogram analysis of the audio cover and stego audio of the system demonstrated an effective level of security from pre-election phase, election phase and post-election phase of the electioneering processes. When electoral processes are exercised with guaranteed security techniques, the electorates can have confidence in the conducted election for improved e-decision system of governance in developing countries with significant digital divide.

However the efficacy of this controller lies in the tuning technique used in the determining its parameters. In this paper, we adopt a two layer coupled tank system whose transfer function was obtained via mathematical modeling. Thereafter the comparison of the performance of the PID controller based on two different tuning techniques – pole placement and internal model control (IMC) technique and that of another controller – the IMC controller was made. This is aimed at determining which tuning technique and control strategy produces a better performance on the basis of the transient response and Integral Absolute Error (IAE) for the system. The design and simulation is being carried out using the MatLab/ Simulink Toolbox and the simulation results shows that the IMC and IMC-tuned PI controller has an improved performance over the Pole-Placement-PI controller.
