First, in this research, the effect of the rhythm to the cinematographic discourse is studied, th... more First, in this research, the effect of the rhythm to the cinematographic discourse is studied, then, The Modern Times and The Dictator of Chaplin are analyzed in terms of rhythm. The intention of this research is to understand how rhythm influences the power of cinematographic discourse. So, the scope of research includes definitions, elements, and theories of rhythm. It is divided into three parts. In the first part, after the definition of the word "rhythm" and after having seen its use in various fields, the meaning of the rhythm in the cinema and the components of the rhythm are examined. Then, relying on the montage-rhythm relation, the theories of Eisenstein and Tarkovsky are comparatively studied. In the second part, the passage from the silent period to the sound period is briefly mentioned, and the influence of the sound on the cinematographic discourse and on the rhythm of the film is put forward. Finally, in the third part, Charlie Chaplin and his films are referred. With different examples of scenes, Modern Times and The Dictator are comparatively worked under the titles of montage, sound, light, and camera movements. Research and works on Tarkovsky, Eisenstein, Chaplin and generally on rhythm are analyzed from a scientific point of view.
