cielmer Valve vs. Vivendi Universal dogfight heats up in US District Court The two-year-old dispute playing out in Federal Court revs up as milestones, court date approach.Last week, news of Valve finally shipping the Half-Life 2 release candidate to publisher Vivendi Universal Games (VUG) grabbed headlines. However, behind the scenes, the two companies have been involved in a much less upbeat kind of transaction--an ongoing legal battle that has garnered little attention from gamers. On August 14, 2002, Valve served its then-publisher Sierra On-Line (now Sierra Entertainment, a Vivendi Universal Games brand) with a lawsuit in the US District Court of Washington, Western Division, alleging copyright infringement--the result of Sierra placing Valve games in Internet cafés in the US and abroad. "Sierra has in the past and continues to reproduce, use, distribute, and/or license one or more of the Valve Games with regard to 'cyber cafés,'" the complaint read. "Sierra's activities are outside the scope of Sierra's limited license...and therefore constitute copyright infringement in violation of the Copyright Act of 1976." And so it began. Source: Gamespot. cielmer Resident Evil: Outbreak File 2 has just been released in Japan. For those who are not in the know, Resident Evil: Outbreak is by far one of the best Resident of Evils ever made. The very first multiplayer of its series has just had a second game released with all the same characters from the first one. File 2 is added stories that coexides with Outbreak 1 and the Setember 30th incident when Raccoon City encountered the outbreak of the T-Virus. Outbreak and File 2 take place the exact same time as RE 2 and 3. It's pretty nifty how they were able to add all of them and make them cross eachothers path. Lately I've found myself addicted to Outbreak for its story and online features. Pros: Going online with upto 4 players simutaneously, braving each scenario not knowing what is around the corner. If a door requires a certain key, chances are, you can just boot it off its hinges. A variety of weapons. Unlimited monsters. Each character has unique skillsIf you run out of ammo, you can plow zombies out of your way. More range of Melee weapons (Iron Pipes, Knives, Scrub Brushes etc) One character can even fashion new weapons out of some old ones. Costume modes. Friendly Fire mode. Cons: Going online, you have a chance of teaming up with a complete moron who gets themselves and the whole team killed. People being greedy over certain items. Some lag times. Some lack of cooperation at times (not always) File 2 will have the same characters but with more features, attacks, monsters and story. Of course, with the same idiocy from some players, if not, maybe more. That's what friendly fire is all about! (comment on this)
