Bhut Jalakia is one of the hottest chillis in the world, grown extensively in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. Aphis gossypii Glover, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood and Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) are the major sucking pests of Bhut Jalakia inflicting damage right from planting to fruiting stages of the crop. Three rounds of biopesticides @ 1 × 10 8 spores/gm and insecticide (imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 20 gm a.i./ha) imposed at 3 weeks interval against the pests revealed that imidacloprid 17.8 SL could significantly reduce the mean population of A. gossypii (4.64); S. dorsalis (2.03) and B. tabaci (0.28), closely followed by Beauveria bassiana (NBAIR-Bb-5a) with 7.20, 3.07 and 0.64 per 10 leaves and both the treatments were on par in their efficacy after third spray. The rest of the entomopathogenic fungi were more or less effective in reducing the sucking pests and statistically at par with each other compared to untreated control plot. Highest yield of 52.64 q/ha recorded in imidacloprid treated plot followed by NBAIR strain of Bb-5a with 45.85 q/ha and had no any significant difference from each other. Minimum yield of 26.78 q/ha was obtained in untreated control plot.

The peak activity of girdle beetle (1.0 damaged plant per meter row) was observed during first week of October. Whereas the peak activity of caterpillar pests that is, S. litura (2.5 larvae per meter row) and C. acuta (0.7 larvae per meter row) was recorded during second fortnight of August and that of sucking pests that is, B. tabaci (3.2 whiteflies per plant) and E. kerri (3.4 jassids per plant) was recorded during last week of August and Second week of August, respectively. The biocontrol agent's three species of lady bird beetle, Menochilus sexmaculata, Coccinella septumpunctata and Coccinella transversalis and orb weaver spider, Neoscona sp. were found predating mainly upon whiteflies and jassids. Whereas, lynx spider, Oxyopes sp. and a predatory pentatomid bug, Eocanthecona furcellata was noticed sucking the body sap of lepidopterous larvae. The peak activity of lady bird beetle in second week of August and September with 0.4 grub and adult per plant, whereas the predatory pentatomid bug and spider is both last week of August with 1.1 and 1.2 bugs and spider per plant respectively.

The highest numbers of Coccinellid predator (1.81/ leaves) with highest yield of (17872 kg/ha) and highest cost benefit ratio (1: 4.60) also recorded from the same module. Thus cabbage intercropped with cowpea and mustard as border crop could be adopted to get rid of key pests of cabbage.

It was observed that the incidence of C. tumidicostalis in chemical control plot was 15.02% in comparison to 11.49% in parasitoid released plot. These revealed a significant difference between the treatments resulting in 55.77% reduction in damage. The mean % parasitism of eggs of C. tumidicostalis in parasitoid released plot was 28.13% as against 9.85% in chemical control plot. The cane yield attributed in parasitoid released plot was 74.15 t/ ha as compared to 69.23 and 49.74 t/ ha in chemical and untreated plots, respectively. A net return of Rs. 101221/ ha was achieved in the parasitoid released plots as against Rs. 87179/ ha in case of chemical control plot. Maximum cost benefit ratio was obtained with T. chilonis released plot (1:2.15) followed by chemical control (1:1.70).

It has been distributed worldwide through travel and trades in different times of history. Though it was brought to India for ornamental purpose, due to higher rate of multiplication, it has become one of the major noxious aquatic weeds and spread almost all the water bodies in Indian sub-continent, including main rivers like Brahmaputra, Cauvery, and Ganga. Problems created by water hyacinth are associated with navigation, flood control, agriculture, irrigation, drainage and conservation of wild life. Water hyacinth weevils are the important bio- control agent of water hyacinth. First shipment of water hyacinth weevils were released in Assam during the year 1988. So,an experiment had designed to study the biology of these weevils and result of the experiment can provide a better idea about favourable environmental condition for these weevils to perform e...
