Emotional stress can cause or exacerbate urticaria symptoms by causing mast cell degranulation via neuromediators. Objectives: To investigate the frequency of stressful life events and compare psychiatric comorbidities and serum neuromediator levels in patients with CSU who responded to omalizumab with healthy controls. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we included 42 patients with CSU who received at least 6 months of omalizumab treatment and a control group of 42 healthy controls. Stressful life events were evaluated with the Life Events Checklist for DSM-5 (LEC-5). The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-42 (DASS-42) was used to evaluate depression, anxiety and stress levels. Serum nerve growth factor (NGF), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP) levels were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. Results: Twenty-six (62%) patients reported at least one stressful life event a median of 3.5 months before the onset of CSU. There were no significant differences in all three variables in the DASS subscales between the patient and control groups. Serum NGF levels were found to be significantly lower in patients with CSU (p<0.001), whereas CGRP levels were found to be significantly higher (p<0.001). There was no significant difference for SP. Conclusions: The psychological status of patients with CSU who benefited from omalizumab was similar to that of healthy controls. Omalizumab may affect stress-related neuromediator levels.

Although crypto currency trading has been investigated in many aspects, the psychological dimension that directly affects investors has often been ignored. Control of cryptocurrency trading is in the hands of investors rather than a central authority or institution. Thus, the value of cryptocurrencies changes with the reactions of investors. This situation suggests that psychological factors may be more prominent in cryptocurrency trading. Cryptocurrency trading has many similarities with gambling and betting, such as risk taking, getting quick returns, extreme gains or losses. Some significant components of behavioral addiction are also seen in individuals who spend so much time with cryptocurrency trading. The purpose of this article is to provide a better understanding of the psychological effects of cryptocuurency trading, which has entered our lives over a relatively brief period of time and reached millions of investors.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of patients initially diagnosed with a primary psychiatric disorder but whose symptoms were later attributed to medical conditions. These patients' initial and final diagnoses were also examined. Methods: The records of 1843 patients hospitalized in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Psychiatric Inpatient Clinic between 2015 and 2020 were examined in this retrospective and descriptive study. Thirteen patients were excluded from the study due to insufficient data. Descriptive statistics were performed on the data of 30 patients diagnosed with an underlying medical condition. Results: In follow-up, 49 patients' diagnoses changed. 19 patients had a diagnosis unrelated to an underlying medical condition, and 30 had a diagnosis related to an underlying medical condition. Five (16.7%) of the patients, previously known to have psychiatric disorders, were found to have Alzheimer's disease. Brain space-occupying lesions, frontotemporal dementia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and Arnold-Chiari malformation followed Alzheimer's disease at 6.7% (n = 2). The mean time until the diagnosis of the patients was revised was 4.95 years (standard deviation [SD] = 7.78). It was observed that psychotropic medications (90%) were used more than non-psychotropic drugs until the diagnosis was revised. Conclusion: During the diagnostic process, we believe that clinicians should be aware of potential underlying medical conditions and that the multidisciplinary work of psychiatry and neurology is also crucial.

defined as the difficulty in awareness and expression of somatic emotions or feelings. The scale is
available in Japanese and Finnish versions. This research aims to examine the psychometric properties
of the Turkish version of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale.
Methods: The study sample consists of 320 patients who applied to the outpatient clinic of consultationliaison psychiatry. Participants completed the Sociodemographic Information Form, the Turkish version
of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale, and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. Internal consistency
and test–retest reliability were used for reliability analyses. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory
factor analysis, and co-validity analyses were used for validity analyses.
Results: According to the exploratory factor analysis results, a 3-factor, 18-item model for the
Turkish version of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale explained 48.3% of the variance (Kaiser–
Meyer–Olkin=0.866; χ2=1535.3, P < .001). Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated a good
fit (χ2=234.893; SD=132; χ2
/SD=1.779; CFI=0.927; GFI=0.923; RMSEA=0.049). In the co-validity
analysis, a significant correlation was found between Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 and Turkish version
of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale (r=0.556, P < .001). Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was
0.825 for the total score, 0.711 for lack of health management based on bodily emotions, 0.794 for
difficulty in describing bodily emotions, and 0.775 for over adaptation. The interclass correlation
coefficient between the 2 measures of Turkish version of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale was
0.883 (P < .001).
Conclusion: The Turkish adaptation of the Shitsu-Taikan-Sho (Alexisomia) Scale demonstrated adequate
psychometric properties. It is an appropriate scale for evaluating the concept of alexisomia in the
population of consultation-liaison psychiatry

The study included 104 couples with primary or secondary infertility and 44 healthy couples with children for the control group. Control group was given the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS), Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Infertile group was given HADS, DAS, MSPSS and also Fertility Problem Inventory. Women in infertile couples reported greater psychological symptoms and more decreased marital adjustment than men in infertile couples; but the couples did not show any significant difference with those in control groups regarding these parameters. It was determined that, in general, while marital adjustment in infertile couples increases, depression and anxiety levels decrease. It was also observed that perceieved social support from the family has a positive effect on the marital adjustment. The perceived social support level in men in infertil couples is lower than women in the same group, and this outcome is also related with the increasing anxiety in men. These results showed that psychosocial problems in infertile couples should be evaluated with specific scales. Psychosocial support which will be given to infertile couples and motivating social support systems while providing this service would have positive effects especially on men.

In this study, it was aimed to determine the rates of readmission and variables predicting readmission in patients with alcohol addiction. Methods:The study sample consisted of 264 alcohol addiction patients with recurrent admissions between 2005–2017 at the Gazi University Hospital Alcohol and Drug Addiction Clinic. In the study, ICD-10 diagnostic classification was used. The differences between the medical comorbidity and psychiatric comorbidity of the patients during the first and second admissions were analyzed. Results:The average age of the study sample was 51.45±12.04 and 89% (n=235) were male. In the second admission, the comorbid headaches (p=0.001), psychotic symptoms (p=0.013), anxiety disorder (p=0.003) and substance addiction (p=0.027) were significantly higher, and the length of hospital stay was shorter. In the first six months, 24.2% (n=64) of the sample was hospitalized again. While the comorbidity of anxiety disorder increased the risk of readmission within six months 2.2-fold (OR=2.240; p=0.031), the short duration of hospitalization (less than 35 days) increased the risk of readmission 2-fold (OR=0.492; p=0.026).Discussion:Patients with a short hospital stay have an increased risk of readmission within the first 6 months after discharge. Policies that reduce the length of hospital stay in health services should be reviewed. However, it is noteworthy that in the second admission of patients with alcohol dependence, the diagnosis of drug addiction is added. To prevent this, issues related to substance abuse prevention should be addressed during the treatment stages of alcohol dependence.

Obesity and cognitive impairment research have focused on the negative consequences of obesity-related medical diseases on cognition. This study aimed to examine the effect of obesity on spatial navigation, and the relationship between changes in tryptophan kynurenine metabolites and spatial navigation in the people with obesity between 18 and 35 years of age. Methods: In 29 adults with obesity and 25 normal weight adults, we examined plasma levels of CRP, leptin, kynurenine (KYN), tryptophan (TRP), kynurenic acid (KYNA), 3-hydroxykynurenine (3-HK), and quinolinic acid (QUIN), as well as the TRP/KYN, KYNA/3-HK, and KYNA/QUIN ratios. Body and abdominal fat composition (AFC) were also examined. The EAT-26 was used to assess eating attitudes. We used Montreal cognitive assessment (MOCA), Reaction Time (RT), Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (RCFT), and Virtual-Reality-Based Route-Learning Test with subtests Route repetition task (RPT), Route retraction task (RRT), Directional-approach task (DAT) to measure cognitive abilities. Results: In participants with obesity, the EAT-26 score was higher (p= 0.006), but the MOCA total score (p=0.03) and RCFT copy subscale score (p=0.03), as well as the RPT (p< 0,001), RRT p= 0,004), and DAT (p< 0,001) percentage of correct answers, was lower than normal-weight participants. The QUIN was found to be a negative predictor of RRT (

Use of psychotropic drugs can cause edema either directly or by causing systemic disease. We present a case of bilateral ankle edema reaching up to the middle of both legs in a 50-year-old female patient, which is considered to be a result of the use of mianserin 10 mg/day. Dramatic regression was observed in the patient's edema 15 days after the cessation of mianserin. This is the second case in the literature that demonstrated peripheral edema associated with mianserin. Clinicians need to know about the management of edema and edema associated with the use of antidepressants. [ Psychiatr Ann . 2022;52(5):213–216.]

Conclusions: According to the present study CBT methods, application and Internet-based interventions can be used as appropriate counseling methods in reducing stress, anxiety and improving pregnancy outcomes in infertile patients. This information can be used as a proper source to select appropriate counseling methods for health care providers, midwives, and treatment staff involved in infertility patients.
