The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between new designs and historical build... more The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between new designs and historical buildings. It is aimed to obtain design data to new designs related to cultural heritage buildings. Within the scope of the study, two data area were used as analyse method. First, international and national legal framework, charters, regulations that guides the relationship of the new designs and the old preserved ones. As a second analyses method, Gestald priciples and the visual perception elements were used. In this context, 30 design examples built in the last 10 years are examined. In the findings of the study, it is seen that the legal framework and visual perception criteria should be taken into consideration in the design of the new annex.

The fact that building design in architecture cannot respond to functional changes over time afte... more The fact that building design in architecture cannot respond to functional changes over time after the building is built is seen as the first problem today. Approaching this problem with kinetic design inputs will bring new possibilities to the design. In this context, biomimetic, which is an approach to use and simulate nature formations, will be a guide in problem solving. The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis of using kinetic-biomimetic mechanisms in order to offer solutions in case of changing capacity and different functional needs. For this purpose, an original design that can respond to such situations is proposed within the scope of the study. The result has been reached by considering the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed design. The use of bio-inspired kinetic mechanisms in architectural design seems to be an important development in terms of providing functional flexibility in architecture.

Computers today play an increasingly important role for architectural design. Traditional educati... more Computers today play an increasingly important role for architectural design. Traditional education tools such as sketch drawings, technical drawing and models are unseperable part of this education. We have been facing problems about how to use computer tools for architectural education such as data collection, archiving, data processing, sketches and visualization. Students who are not able to use computer during the first semester spend much time to use these tools. In this study, architectural design process is divided into stages in order to find a solution to this basic problem, and at every stage, usage of traditional and digital technologies are observed as the usage density of students and usage methods. At the end of the study, it is evaluated that d uring architectural education when and how to teach traditional and digital technologies, and in the design studios, during the design sub-process, at which stages these technologies should be used. According to the data achieved durig the evaluation; it is eviden t that at the early stages of design traditional methods, while developing the design both technologies, and at the later stages such as size, proportion, material, texture, photorealism only the digital methods and materials are used by the majority of students. Mass housing projects, which started to develop in Turkey since 1980's, continue to be produc... more Mass housing projects, which started to develop in Turkey since 1980's, continue to be produced rapidly through private entrepreneurs, cooperatives and government agencies today. Similar repetitions of mass housing projects create monotonous cities that weaken individuals' perception of direction. Exterior spaces in Ankara, produced by settlements that dissociate users based on income groups, are analyzed within perception and environmental psychology context. Lynch's "images of the city" and "mental mapping method" which is based on these images is important for analysis. Also, Gestalt basic design and composition principles, urban elements and design approaches -Sanoff's visual research methods- and factors which play a role in individuals perception of space are also selected as methods to analyze the cases. Traditional architectural design education is composed of two steps: Theorical information transfer and applied design studio. Applied studio step is formed as face to face, interactive work between the educator and the student. In that traditional method, technical drawing on paper, modeling work, and computer aided photorealistic visual tools are architectural simulation mediums in design process.In this study, the remote - digital technological methods that are aimed to support present architectural education such as internet- intranet, have been introduced. In that context, architectural design training have been realised by using these tools with postgraduate students of Gazi University Department of Architecture. The aim of this study is to examine utilization possibilites of these technologies by people who is working, handicapped, trying to renew his/her knowledge and to have additional training by means of lifelong education and to evaluate positive and negative results obtained. Günümüzde mimari tasarımda sürdürülebilir enerji eldesi ve bina formu ilişkisi önem kazanmıştır. ... more Günümüzde mimari tasarımda sürdürülebilir enerji eldesi ve bina formu ilişkisi önem kazanmıştır. Ancak literatürde enerji etkin mimari tasarım amaçlı bina formu çalışmalarında form parametresinin birkaç geometrik form ile ele alındığı görülmektedir. Bu doğrultuda çalışma kapsamında form parametresi, diğer çalışmalardan farklı olarak, mimarlıkta biçimlendirme yaklaşımlarıyla birlikte düşünülerek geometrik ve organik mimari formlar olarak ele alınmış ve güneş enerjisi kazanımı bağlamında sorgulanmıştır. Güneşten maksimum enerji kazancı sağlayan mimari formların belirlenerek, yapılarda tüketilen ısıtma yükünün azaltılması ve ısı enerjisi kazancı bağlamında optimum mimari formların belirlenmesi amaçlanan çalışmada, Ankara örneklemi üzerinde belirlenen 12 mimari formun, DesignBuilder simülasyon programı kullanılarak güneş ışınımı analizleri yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, güneşin hareket eksenini yatayda ve güneşin yeryüzüyle yaptığı açıyı düşeyde takip ederek biçimlenen eğrisel organik formlu binaların, daha fazla güneş enerjisi kazanımı sağladığı görülmüştür.

Today, developing technology and globalization change the cultures, lifestyles, and needs of soci... more Today, developing technology and globalization change the cultures, lifestyles, and needs of societies. This change also impacts the expectations from architectural spaces. Spaces designed to perform a predetermined function may be insufficient to meet the changing needs over time. The aim of this study is to show the flexibility that the movable structural elements bring to the space. In this context, we propose integrating movable inner and outer shell structural elements to achieve specific functionality and meet the various functional capacity needs. In this study, a sample design was visualized to demonstrate the use of integrated kinetic building elements and was discussed its applicability with existing technologies and the advantages that it can provide. As a result, it was observed that kinetic building elements practically provide spatial flexibility and functional diversity in architectural design. In addition, the visuals show that the system is practical, applicable and efficient. Kinetic and flexible space design can be evaluated in "Generative and Parametric design" by means of to obtain variable solutions and functional sustainability according to different functional expectations from design.

In that traditional method, technical drawing on paper, modeling work, and computer aided photorealistic visual tools are architectural simulation mediums in design process.In this study, the remote - digital technological methods that are aimed to support present architectural education such as internet- intranet, have been introduced. In that context, architectural design training have been realised by using these tools with postgraduate students of Gazi University Department of Architecture. The aim of this study is to examine utilization possibilites of these technologies by people who is working, handicapped, trying to renew his/her knowledge and to have additional training by means of lifelong education and to evaluate positive and negative results obtained. Günümüzde mimari tasarımda sürdürülebilir enerji eldesi ve bina formu ilişkisi önem kazanmıştır. ... more Günümüzde mimari tasarımda sürdürülebilir enerji eldesi ve bina formu ilişkisi önem kazanmıştır. Ancak literatürde enerji etkin mimari tasarım amaçlı bina formu çalışmalarında form parametresinin birkaç geometrik form ile ele alındığı görülmektedir. Bu doğrultuda çalışma kapsamında form parametresi, diğer çalışmalardan farklı olarak, mimarlıkta biçimlendirme yaklaşımlarıyla birlikte düşünülerek geometrik ve organik mimari formlar olarak ele alınmış ve güneş enerjisi kazanımı bağlamında sorgulanmıştır. Güneşten maksimum enerji kazancı sağlayan mimari formların belirlenerek, yapılarda tüketilen ısıtma yükünün azaltılması ve ısı enerjisi kazancı bağlamında optimum mimari formların belirlenmesi amaçlanan çalışmada, Ankara örneklemi üzerinde belirlenen 12 mimari formun, DesignBuilder simülasyon programı kullanılarak güneş ışınımı analizleri yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, güneşin hareket eksenini yatayda ve güneşin yeryüzüyle yaptığı açıyı düşeyde takip ederek biçimlenen eğrisel organik formlu binaların, daha fazla güneş enerjisi kazanımı sağladığı görülmüştür.

Today, developing technology and globalization change the cultures, lifestyles, and needs of soci... more Today, developing technology and globalization change the cultures, lifestyles, and needs of societies. This change also impacts the expectations from architectural spaces. Spaces designed to perform a predetermined function may be insufficient to meet the changing needs over time. The aim of this study is to show the flexibility that the movable structural elements bring to the space. In this context, we propose integrating movable inner and outer shell structural elements to achieve specific functionality and meet the various functional capacity needs. In this study, a sample design was visualized to demonstrate the use of integrated kinetic building elements and was discussed its applicability with existing technologies and the advantages that it can provide. As a result, it was observed that kinetic building elements practically provide spatial flexibility and functional diversity in architectural design. In addition, the visuals show that the system is practical, applicable and efficient. Kinetic and flexible space design can be evaluated in "Generative and Parametric design" by means of to obtain variable solutions and functional sustainability according to different functional expectations from design.
